We know there are just
as many people out there that like to run their 2wd's off-road as
those with 4x4's.
We've put together a
list of company's offering kits for Ford Rangers.

Ranger
2wd trucks with twin I beam front suspension are a good choice for
building a pre-runner or race truck. Autofab has achieved 16 inches
of wheel travel using stock length beams! The first step of course
is to choose Autofab bent beams to accomplish the necessary lift of
4 inches. Then using radius arms from their middle of the road kit
you can now reach 16 inches of travel. The problem is the stock coil
bucket and shock mount restrict the wheel travel and the Ranger coil
buckets are not strong enough for serious off road use. Autofab
chose to use a coil bucket instead of coil over shocks, for some
obvious reasons, by studying what you have to do to properly mount a
coil over. If you are keeping the stock brake booster master
cylinder along with your heater/air conditioning unit you will have
much difficulty placing a coil over long enough to achieve 16 inches
of wheel travel. If you are building a race truck and removing all
of the above then by all means a coil over shock and bypass are the
ultimate goal.
Top
right is the basic foundation of a Ranger wheel travel kit. The
beams displayed are the 1989 to 1997 style cast beams.
Forged beams from the earlier Ranger 2wd trucks differ in looks but
the function is the same. This particular kit is setup for 2 Fox 2.0
reservoir racing shocks per wheel. This photo is the basic
foundation for any Ranger 2wd truck for 16 inches of wheel travel.
The U shaped brackets above left bolt on the front side of the beam
radius arm. They do this instead of welding to the beam itself. That
way if you ever knock a beam out or tweak it you can replace it
without redoing the lower shock mount. Below the U mounts are the
radius arm pivot brackets. There are 2 styles depending on customer
request. One is for rubber bushing pivots and the other style for
Rod End bearings. Too the right of these are the cross members they
provide. One bolts into the same location your original one under
the bell housing area. The other is the parts you need to construct
one between the two radius arm pivot brackets. This must be done at
the time of installation because of frame variations. Plenty of
Grade 8 mounting hardware is included to properly bolt your brackets
to your Ranger frame.
Middle
right is the serious parts of their kit. Custom made coil buckets
much stronger than stock. Tall hoop structure so the front shock can
be a 14 inch travel shock. Here is the secret of the wheel travel.
Get a long enough of a shock in there to stroke for all that travel.
The rear shock mount is different because that shock is further back
on the radius arm and does not stroke the same amount. This will fit
below your master cylinder brake booster and on the right side next
to the heater/ac box. Sometimes some maneuvering of the ac dryer is
necessary as it is close. Their coil buckets are also offered with
weight jacker coil spring adjusters. This allows adjustment of ride
height and fine tuning from side to side. At the top of the shock
mount hoops are some wing shaped brackets. These and 2 tabs are for
the engine crossbar mounts. These need to be final fitted and the
tube welded at the time of installation as well. This can be done
when you do the radius arm cross member. Autofab coil springs
provide the 4 inch lift. Bump stops and limit straps are included
with their kits. They will protect your shocks from bottoming out or
stretching apart.
Bottom
right is the radius arm kit with rod end bearings for pivots.
Special mounting brackets complete with rod end spacers and through
bolt. Note components for cross members included as well.

For
1983-1997 2wd Ranger's
New
pre-set coil springs provide lift. Superlift uses new axle pivot
brackets, laser-cut from .25” steel plate, to lower the inboard
ends of the axle beams and restore camber. New camber alignment
bushings, available from your Ford dealer or local alignment shop,
may be needed to precisely “dial-in” camber angle. Caster angle
must also be addressed. Caster correction is handled by your choice
of either lowering the stock radius arms at their frame (rear) end
attaching points, the route taken with their Standard Series system,
or by replacing the stock radius arms entirely with their extended
length Superunner Long-Arm radius arms.
The
Standard Series method replaces the factory radius arm brackets with
longer brackets laser-cut from .25” plate steel. The Superunner
Long-Arm radius arms offer caster correction plus additional
benefits. The arms are considerably longer than stock, and increase
the amount of usable bind-free suspension extension travel. This
makes it easier for the tires to travel independently and stay in
contact with the road or trail surface. The longer arms also reduce
the degree of caster change the vehicle experiences as the
suspension goes through its travel cycle. These factors combine to
improve overall driveability and ride quality. You’ll experience a
noticeable difference both on- and off-road.
They
offer two different products to correct steering linkage angle; on
most lifted TTB Fords simply installing their dropped pitman arm
alone will result in satisfactory steering characteristics. The
dropped arm, used in conjunction with their industry award winning
Superunner steering linkage upgrade, delivers optimum steering
traits. Superunner Steering System Even in stock form, the Ford TTB
steering seems somewhat vague. On off-camber or less than ideal
driving surfaces, it takes continuous corrective steering input to
keep the vehicle pointed straight. When the vehicle is raised, these
inherent tendencies are magnified, creating two areas of concern: 1)
Minimizing tie rod angles, 2) Keeping the tie rods’ arc of
movement in phase with the axle beams’ arc of movement. These two
factors “make or break” driveability. When this geometry is
incorrect, it causes excessive toe-in / toe-out variations as the
suspension travels, resulting in the TTB Ford version of
“bump-steer”. Superlift offers two methods to correct steering.
Their dropped pitman arm reduces some of the additional steering
linkage angle created by the increased ride height. Their pitman
arm, used with their Superunner replacement steering linkage system,
addresses both problems. The new steering system uses a centerlink
to further reduce tie rod angles, and the new tie rods are more
proportional in length to the axle beams. The result is steering
linkage that is more in phase with the suspension.
The
most popular and least expensive method of rear lift is via blocks.
Add-a-leafs, and different height blocks are available for all
applications; most applications have replacement rear spring options
available as well.
They
offer 2wd kits from 3.5 - 5 Inches
