Quarter Flip Side Window

Introduction

When Ford designed the Bronco II, they originally designed it with an optional ‘Quarter Flip Removable Window’. Instructions on how to open and remove the windows can be found in the 1984-1985 Bronco II owner’s manual. It had been believed that the Ford Bronco II quarter flip removable window never actually made it into production because none had been seen or discussed online. That all changed when one finally surfaced in November 2020.

Quarter Flip Removable Window (RPO)

To open, squeeze the latch levers on each side of the front and rear latch body, lift the latch body up and outboard. Make sure that both front and rear latches are secured in open position.

To close, squeeze the latch levers and pull latch body upward and inboard. Make sure that both front and rear latches are secure in locked positions.

Removing Quarter Flip Window From Vehicle

WARNING – Removable flip window assemblies are not to be installed or removed while the vehicle in in operation. This may cause loss of control of the window assemblies, possibly resulting in damage or personal injury.

To remove the window, open it, depress the latch release buttons and detach the glass from the latches. While standing outside the vehicle, grasp the window firmly at both ends and rotate upward until hinges contact the stop position. Lift the window upward and out of the hinge pin seats.

WARNING – After the window is removed, the window latches must be returned to the closed position and locked to prevent occupant injury with an extended latch.

Installing Quarter Flip Window

To install the window, first examine the roof hinge seats to assure they are clear of any debris. While standing outside the vehicle, grasp the window firmly at both ends and insert hinge pins into the hinge seats, making sure that the hinge pins are properly engaged, (see diagram.) Rotate glass down and attach the window latches.

WARNING – If glass does not rotate freely after installation, check the hinges for proper seating. Do not force the window because the glass might break.

Seat belts must be worn when driving with flip quarter window removed. Seat belts minimize the risk of personal injury in the event of sudden vehicle movement or collision.

Very Rare

I have never seen a Ford Bronco II with these quarter flip side windows and never found anyone online that has seen one. Some have suspected that Ford eliminated the option prior to the Bronco II’s start of production. So, if you find one, or photo’s, please contact us!
