No Heat

Some owners have reported a lack of heat from the HVAC system. Test the heater during a used-truck inspection and make sure it produces warm air.

Engine Vibration – 2.3L

Engine vibration has been reported in Rangers equipped with the 2.3L engine. If the truck has a noticeable vibration, check for engine-related causes rather than assuming it is normal.

Engine Light Comes On and RPMs Jump

Owners have reported the check-engine light coming on along with unexpected changes in engine RPM. A diagnostic scan can help identify the cause.

Rust and Body Problems

Reported body-related concerns include:

• Rear bumper rusting through
• Rust holes developing in the bed
• Door rattles

Inspect the truck’s frame, bed, bumper, cab corners, and other areas where corrosion may develop. Rust can be especially important to consider on trucks that have spent time in areas where road salt is used.

Front Brake Calipers Sticking

Reports include front brake calipers sticking, with rust identified as a possible contributing factor. During an inspection, check for uneven braking, dragging brakes, excessive heat at a wheel, or uneven pad wear.

Other Reported Concerns

Other individual owner reports include a cracked power steering pump, an intermittent airbag warning light, fuel tank leakage, and an anti-theft system problem that caused the instrument panel to go blank.

21V158 – Driver-Side Airbag Inflator

Ford recall 21S12 covers certain 2007–2011 Ford Rangers equipped with Takata driver-side airbag inflators.

The inflator may rupture during airbag deployment, sending metal fragments into the vehicle and potentially causing serious injury or death.

Ford’s remedy is to replace the affected driver-side airbag inflator or module free of charge.

21V081 – Airbag Inflator Replacement Parts

This recall concerns a limited population of vehicles that previously received replacement Takata airbag inflators. Certain replacement parts may have been installed during subsequent repairs.

This is not a blanket recall of all 2008 Rangers. Check the VIN to determine whether a particular truck is affected.

17V024 – Passenger-Side Airbag Inflator

Ford recall 17S01 covers certain 2007–2009 Ford Rangers in specified geographic zones.

The passenger-side frontal airbag inflator may rupture due to propellant degradation after prolonged exposure to heat and humidity. A rupture can send metal fragments into the passenger compartment.

Ford’s remedy is to replace the affected passenger-side airbag inflator.

16V384 – Passenger-Side Airbag Inflator

Ford recall 16S26 covers certain 2007–2011 Rangers originally sold or registered in specified geographic zones.

The passenger-side frontal airbag inflator may rupture during deployment, potentially sending metal fragments into the vehicle and causing serious injury or death.

The recall is geographically limited. Texas is included in Zone A, and certain other states are included in Zone B. Check the truck’s VIN to determine applicability.

11V352 – Multifunction Switch / Lighting

This recall involves certain 2011 Ford Rangers built between January 25, 2011, and April 25, 2011. It also concerns replacement service parts distributed for certain 2004–2011 Rangers.

A switch slider may deform and cause the turn signals, tail lamps, hazard flashers, or brake lights to fail to activate.

The factory-built vehicle portion of this recall does not apply to a 2008 Ranger. However, a truck could be affected if it received an affected replacement service part.
