Maybe it is a hot air, maybe it isn't. I have tubes on all my vehicles, that mount under the bumper and route air from outside the engine compartment up into the area the filter occupies. My Ranger, Lightning and Mustang all have them. When it's cold outside, as it is now, the intakes on all three are cold. The steel tube gets a little warm, but not egg frying hot. And yes, when it's summer, there's nothing you can do with any intake to keep the air cold. Why would he need a new coil and a hot air intake?
Coils? You do know there was a recall on the 3.0 coils many years ago. Mine never got done, still has the coils that should've been recalled. I always choose to go with something better than stock if replacing something. Coils included. I was fighting a P0300 random misfire code on my 4.0 Stang. Replaced the coils with the Accel Supercoils, wires with JBA Power Wires and new factory plugs. It appears to have worked.
