Rear tow

I was just in Home Depot tonight, in their cristmas gift area where they always have the goodies out they have a 2" by 20' vehicle recovery strap or whatever they call it for $10, for general tows it would be just fine, for a serious stuck situation not quite but hey, $10 is $10... I think it's lighter duty than the Harbor Freight strap that's almost always $20-25 but way better than nothing

A chain is fine to use as long as it is a steady pull and you don't yank on it. A nylon tow strap is safer but the best thing to use for recovery is a kinetic rope.

If you get the nylon recovery straps, make sure it’s the ones without the hooks. If they have hooks, you might as well have chains since both will be a projectile when they break. Amazon and some other places sell a bar meant for recovery straps called a dog bone. Those let you link two straps together and not have it be a permanent link. They are also light enough that chances of getting injured by them is less likely, assuming they stay stuck to the strap somehow and go flying.
