There are plenty of engines that utilize a timing belt that are interference engines. Having a timing belt or chain doesnt have anything to do with it. It has to do with the valve and the piston sharing the same area in the combustion chamber.

Thanks YS.. I just must have never seen an interference timing belted engine. Oh well that's why we get older and smarter.. I do wish to state here that it is a stupid idea to use a belt in an interference engine..

Yea....also the reason they state as little as a 60,000 mile timing belt maintenance schedule. Just another reason for the dealer to rape you...
