4.0L SOHC Pulling the SOHC for inspection

I wonder if it would work to clear burnt on oil or undercoating. Would be cool for prepping frames for paint.

Yes.

With prejudice.

Theyre a one shot deal. Nuke with laser, then paint. No other prep needed.

Probably would start a fire or put out enough toxic fuels to kill a small town.

Should try it.
It most definitely would, and yea make sure it’s in a well ventilated area! 😂

Argh!!! Sonofa*%^! Got the LH cam timed and the RH bolt failed while torquing it to spec. I’ve got another on order now so it’s back to the waiting game.

So while waiting for the new bolt, I decided to change the fuel filter bc it’s old and rusty, I couldn’t get one of the lines from the tank to the filter off (the green clip one); I tried and tried and eventually the line got a bad kink in it. So I figured I’d just replace it with one from the other (donor) ranger. Pulled the bed back some and popped off both the lines to try filter and I’ll eventually drop the tank on the other to replace them.

That’s the hard plastic type lines right?

if you heat it up it will get soft and you can replace the fittings. I’ve heard of people boiling it to get it soft enough to put a new end on. I’ve also used a lighter myself.

I don’t remember why but I needed to replace or add a T fitting into one once.

Yes the hard plastic ones. The damn filter won’t come out of the one line no matter how much I pushed in on the green tab, cycled the tab in and out, sprayed with penetrating oil, everything I could think of so I was just like the heck with it I’ll just replace the line. The donor rangers lines came off easy.

Has some time today and got a few things back on, have to do the oil pans next. That’ll happen when i get back from moose hunting. Left a towel over the upper pan just to help keep stuff out while im gone.

Hey, looks like we live in the same town. I'm currently doing the timing on my 04 ranger. I'm curious though, did you get new jackshaft sprocket bolts? And where did you get them from? I didn't realize they are torque to yield before tearing things apart. Now I have the engine on a stand an cant go much farther without them.
Probably to late as you got your heads back on, but as for a machine shop, american iron has been rumoured to be shutting down for years now but as far as I know are still in operation. I've also seen people "machine" their heads with a large piece of glass, spray glue and sand paper. I've never done it myself, but I'm not going to lie, this towns lack of resources has me considering trying it on my old 2.9l heads from my old bronco ii.

I’ve known guys that would use an old brake rotor to “machine” a head or deck.

Flatten it up in a brake lathe, but run the final pass real fast so it leaves a coarse finish.

Another Juneau member? Nice. I got my jackshaft bolts from fordpartsdirect.com I also had to order some stuff through seekins ford in Fairbanks. Yea I heard American iron shut down but never went by to see if they were still open. Turned out not to need to machine them. I’m over in Gustavus moose hunting thru the end of the week.

I’m sorry “fordpartsgiant.com”

Oh okay. I almost got them from that sight. I ended up buying them from Kendall Ford in Anchorage. Hope you got a moose, sounds like a fun trip.

On the ferry back, didn’t get a bull moose but got up close with a cow and calf.

Argh… only one gasket-ed washer was in the fel-pro kit I got, and I need two for the upper oil pan… I’ve emailed them but in the meantime I’m off internet searching for another one.

I decided to reuse one of the old ones that looked ok, and I smeared some black max on the area around the bolts after torquing them down. I’ll have faith in that rather than wait another 2 weeks or something for a replacement. It’s ready to take off the stand and replace the rear main seal, then backing plate and back in the ranger. Probably could do it today but I’ve got some stuff like washing the explorer and getting all the green mildew off it lol. I wasn’t gonna worry about it but my kid likes driving it better than the tundra so i want to clean it up better for him. Also I’ve got to weld that last exhaust piece back tonight in the lab.
