I dont know how often you would need to drop the belly pan but if you needed to for maintenance or repair wouldnt it be easier to use quarter turn fasteners? just a thought for easier access on the underside.

it would be a very rare occurrence to remove it.there will be an access panel to drain the oil,but pretty much anything else will be reached from the top.removing the belly pan will involve stripping the vehicle completely.

take it all back apart. Everything is just tacked together so he can disasseble it to take it back out.

yup....that's how.
the real time-taker on a project like this is getting everything fitted together properly.once it's all figured out,right down to the brakes and wiring,it all gets disassembled,welding finished,everything painted,so it can be reassembled like a new car out in the shed.
then,i start it up and go for a drive.

at the cost of those things,i'm hoping to get at least a bit of life out of them....i guess we'll see


did some rear fender tweaking....

as with the front,i had to open the wheel arches out a bit.these ones went 2 1/4'' bigger.there's an old repair that was not done too nicely,i'll need to make the whole front half of the arch from scratch,as well as the bottom section behind the arch.the piece of metal in the gap at the middle is to space the sheetmetal out from the tire as things are formed,as well as protect the tire.
gotta love rust

here you can get an idea of how losing the standing seam on the fender top cleans up the look.i also had to do a relief cut from the top forward corner of the arch to pull the fender out to a bigger bulge,clearing the tire better.

while i'm getting rid of seams,this is another one that will go.the windshield frame will be welded to the roof and smoothed out.

with the panels aligned a bit better than yesterday,i'm getting a better idea of what the final look will be like.i'm making mental pictures of it in color,now-i think it will look good.

At first I didn't think it would be a big deal but the more I see and hear, the more I think that headlight is screaming french me.

Is that as low as the roof will sit on the car or do you have some more adjusting and aligning to do? From the looks of that picture the top front piece of the cage could go up some more.

you're right-the headlights need frenching.the roof is as low as it goes,they are kinda bulbous on these,i've been considering ways to streamline it a bit but i may need to just live with it.
and yes,the top bar on the windshield needs to be raised.
