Gt-12

so,just got confirmation on the tach.50 bucks plus 12 for shipping.also from ebay,a pair of nos taillight lenses,$46 shipped, and a hood latch to replace the broken one on the right side-$36 shipped.
i think ebay is getting a bit of my cash in the near future.there's a lot of the little things you wouldn't find otherwise.
adds up though.

the seats are a lot more comfortable with a floor under them.there is no structure under the seat cushions to them, the foam just sits on the floor.so without a floor under them they are like sitting in a bucket without a lid.
i've also been giving the belly pan fastening dilemna a lot of thought.
i'm sticking with the original plan.a nicely laid out pattern of flush bolts will look better than the inevitable warping and marking i would get from doing fillet welds on material this thin.it'll also hold better, with less chance of cracking later.

Clean gas tank.

Love the smooth belly, too. Definitely the way to go...handling and economy improve.

aluminum is nice to work with.you end up with a nice shiny product.too bad it'll never be seen,as it will be covered up with interior panels.
and on the smooth belly,i just like the look of it,and it's easy to keep clean-no places for dirt to hide.

HOLY CRAP-THERE'S A CAR IN THE BASEMENT!

i knew there was no way to get this into the house, but then i got to thinking(dangerous)and realised that if i was cutting the seam on the top of the fender, and the one below the taillight, and the floors are going, there's not much left holding the fender to the roof section.and fitting the body to chassis interface will be much easier when the parts are all in one place,so i got to sawzalling.

it's much more manageable like this.i'll only be able to tack it together untill i get it all out again, but all the fitting will be much easier now, especially around the rear wheelwells.

WHOA! I missed a lot Tom, this being out of town nabbing Wi-Fi sucks.

So you're using carriage bolts to hold the belly pan on? I think that will look just fine. Must have been an awesome moment to see it together in a car-like form, eh? :D

nabbing wi-fi?oh-i get it...to get on the net.where were you?

on the floor i won't be using carriage bolts, but rather countersunk stainless allen-head bolts.i think these will look good if laid out properly, still be flush, and hold well.as this is the floor too, there will be some stress on it.
i'll be using a small bolt(10-28)and will probably need about 200 of them.that's a lot of tapping threads.

it's kinda cool to see it looking like a car, even if the panels are just sort of draped over it for now.it's even more cool to see that things are fitting where they need to be.
sitting in the car now i can see it's a good thing i'm not claustrophobic,as it's certainly not as roomy as the f350,and getting my aging butt back out of it is a bit of a chore.
the view through the windshield is pretty cool,though.:icon_thumby:

better try and avoid all speed bumps lol. looking good cant wait to see it finished

i've been giving such things as speed bumps a lot of thought lately.
luckilly there are none in my town, but i intend on using this off-island too.plus, theres a pretty good bump going into the gas station(we only have one)so i'm thinking of ways to get gassed up without tearing up the bottom.

A thin layer of plastic similar to cutting boards bonded to the aluminum?

i want to keep the clean aluminum surface.i'm thinking more along the lines of very careful driving.
i guess i'll have to smooth the driveway out a bit, too.

u have any pics from the drivers seat looking out the windshield?

I'm sure you'll think of something you always do:icon_thumby:

I dont know how often you would need to drop the belly pan but if you needed to for maintenance or repair wouldnt it be easier to use quarter turn fasteners? just a thought for easier access on the underside.
