With the exception of “skip” conditions, range, even with a 102” whip, is relatively short unless you use illegal means to increase power. Add in that a lot of truckers don’t respond or don’t have a radio on anymore and that a lot of ordinary folk aren’t using CBs anymore and sometimes there’s just nobody in range to talk to.
Back in the early 2000’s, like up to about 05-08, there was often groups of people chatting on the CB at times. A lot of truckers used CBs and would typically respond at least to questions about conditions if you asked it right (Hey there Southbound/Northbound/Eastbound/Westbound, what did you leave behind you?). That sort of thing. Nowdays even asking like that often results in silence and I’m suspecting it’s a lack of CB radio use rather than people being difficult.
