Shows it does explorers, doesn’t say rangers. But if the motors and transmission are interchangeable, does that mean it will work on my old 99 4.0 ranger ?

It's worked for years on my 98. I had some custom tunes programmed on mine by a guy that did a lot of mustang stuff. It does make a noticeable difference over stock, especially when running the 93 octane torque tune.

The unit itself doesn't care what it's used on as long as it is OBD-II. The tunes themselves are kind of vehicle specific.

IIRC the tunes are matched to the ECU strategy. If your ECU has the strategy they the tuner is programmed for it should work, regardless of what that ECU is in.

If you are planning to buy one, make sure it is unlocked. If it was used to program a vehicle, but vehicle was never returned to stock, the tuner is still locked to it. I'm not sure if you could still get SCT to unlock it, I saw something regarding that when I was looking for info on my old X2 unit the other day. Of course mine is old enough that they don't have any info for it any more

My dad got it out of a used vehicle. Guess I need to check whether it’s unlocked.
if not. The vehicle it came from may still be there. I do know it will run a scan. Bout all I’ve done so far

Good point on the lock possibility. It works well as a scanner/code reader as mentioned. I really don't mess with mine often but it definitely fiddles with shift points and timing.

From what I have read so far. 11 hp gain is about all they add .. except for super duties.. but the shift points and torque sound nice .

Yeah I'm not sure what it would do alone for hp but definitely feel a bit more snappiness if you go back and forth between stock and torque mode. I have an 87 tune and a 93 performance tune in addition to the 93 torque tune. I sent a list of my vehicle specs when I ordered it from Bama.

I'm getting about 18mpg on the torque tune with the winter gas and my wore out 212k O2 sensors too. ;)

lol kinda wish I had never broken back into my 90 2.9 engine. Figured my mpg three weeks in a row, back when I was always driving it. Was 26.6mpg. Took backroad to most jobs for years.
