2.0L ('83-'88) Coolant hose to intake

Just curious as to what the coolant hose that splits off and goes to the intake manifold does. My truck is currently overheating. As I check the hoses they are all hot except this one.

My credo
drives a stick shift ranger
normally, if a coolant hose go to the intake or throttle body, its preheater type set up that is supposed to warm the intake/tb on cooler days to help with emissions and stuff. they also can leak and cause issues so i have always tried to remove them from the system (since i live in a warm winter state).

is your thermostat good? sounds like you have no coolant circulation so i would assume the thermostat is stuck closed

No thermostat. Had a new one in and took it out.

and the hoses into the radiator and leaving hte radiator are the same temp? which in turn makes the gage read high?

have you actually had it overheat and blow coolant or the gage is just saying its hot? hopefully just the gage

it gets hot at slow speeds/sitting, on the highway and speeds above 30mph, or both?

There's an issue, normally the 2.3L's run cold, we've heard of water pump impellers rusting apart while not leaking so that is possible

I agree, there should be about 30 degrees differential across the radiator, top hose hotter than bottom

The port on the intake side is after the heater core returning to the engine bypassing the radiator.

Gets steadily hotter as I drive. Not much over 40 mph and get about 3-4 miles. It’s bubbling at the cap into the overflow. If the hose to the intake goes back to the engine then I may need to start there as all other hose I can hardly touch and that one is not even warm.

Close I guess. Mine’s rubber but does go to under the the carburetor.
