Well, if you have the disc 8.8 31 explorer axle (assuming its the rig in your sig) then an Aussie's the ONLY way I'd ever go. I can't even tell its back there half the time other than going around a sharp turn taking off from a stop

The best locker would be an ARB.

Now if you don't want to spend $1000+ then i would go with an aussie. I had an aussie in my worthless Toyota and it was great compared to my Spartan lockers in my Ranger.

To each their own, I suppose. Not considering price, I'd STILL choose the Aussie locker. They're stupid simple. They either work, or they don't.

I would go to a Detroit or Yukon Zip locker. The weak point of the 8.8 is the carrier, a full replacement locker solves that issue.

Yep.

I've had ARBs in two trucks over the last 16 years. I did grenade one about 10 years ago though it was an early design unit. Any of the ones built maybe within the last 12 years I don't think you can go wrong with.

FWIW, that one blown-up ARB I did replace with a Detroit Locker. It's been 100% trouble-free, however I'd try to stay away from it if you have a stickshift. The lash built into a Detroit makes it a little annoying with each shift (you have to feather the clutch a bit each time so it doesn't bang or lurch during engagement).
With an automatic this isn't so noticeable.

I just put a lockrite in last week and its not really noticeable like blinkers mentioned unless around tight corners.

Prob the most street friendly locker would be a ARB if you got the $$$.

I have aussie's front and rear on my b2 and you don't know they are there, till I'm in a parking lot. You get kinda used to not turning to full lock and then trying to accelerate.

I DD my lock rite and dont notice it anymore either. I did learn to coast my corners and accelerate when I am out of the turn. I learned not to hard launch unless you know both side gears are engaged as well.

It depends if you hate open diffs on the street too. If it doesn't bother you, ARB for sure. I hate driving on the street and punching the throttle only to have 1 tire spin and go nowhere fast, so I like auto lockers. I really like the Aussie in my B2, but a Detroit or Zip is a stronger option.

I can attest to this.

Had a 31 spline explorer 8.8 in the 91 with 4.56's and a detroit...that truck was an auto....95% unnoticeable on the street.

Have that same rear end swapped under my 97 with the 5 speed and it's certainly clunky/bangy/popping a lot.

Thats exactly what my truck is. FW 8.8 in the back and FW Dana 44 in the front with 5.13's and spartans. The spartans were very cheap. I got mine from Rock auto for $500 for both lockers and it came the next day on a saturday!

The FW 8.8 is a 31 spline.

My lock-rite is just about unnoticeable on the street, and does its job just as advertised on and off road.

Took more time to get the cross pin bolt (that little jesus/keeper bolt) out after the head broke off, than to install the thing. Stupid simple, works every time. Not hard at all to get used to, parking lots are a PITA sometimes, though.
