Wheel stud knurl size question

Trying to get replacement wheel studs that are 3 inches long, I can't find any that are the specific knurl diameter of 0.570 but I found ones that have a knurl diameter of 0.563 will these be to small of a knurl to press in will they be loose?

At this point I'm thinking I'll have to get the rotors machined for the old moroso studs I have in the other rotors to fit these 3 inch studs

Ya know... I just have a thing for wheel spacers. I just don't like them.

I converted to long wheel studs on a few different vehicles... to meet the rule book. I just picked studs that I could drill holes with a standard size drill bit and get .010 inch interference. I'm sorry I don't remember the size... but you what .010 inch interference.

Maybe this should be a new thread, but it's almost an identical question. I'm trying to mount a set of aluminum uni-lug wheels on a Ranger '87 XLT. It's an old 2WD work truck that I'm planning to use just for normal hauling and tooling around in, and cost is a consideration.

The stock studs reach, but using an pick tool I'm only counting about 7 or 8 threads going into the cone-shaped lugs nuts before they bottom. Seems like an extra 3/8 - 1/2' of stud length would be a safer installation.

So I've got basically the same issue that RedRanger2006 was talking about last summer. Stock replacement studs at Rock Auto have .566 (Dorman) or .570 (PTC) knurl for the front and .618 for the rear.

I found a set of trailer lug studs on Amazon that add just under 1/2" with a knurl size of .617, so I'm thinking I'm probably okay with using those on the back. Rock Auto sells a set of PTC studs that would add 1/2" to the front, but the knurl diameter is .560, so .006 smaller than the Dorman stock replacement.

This truck isn't going to be used for any kind of performance, racing, or off-road activities. If I use the PTC studs from Rock Auto on the front, clearly I wouldn't have the .010 oversize that Uncle Gump was talking about. Are those likely to be good enough (at about .006 under the stock size) for my purposes, or should I drill out the rotors and use the same .617 knurl trailer studs I'm planning to buy for the back?

Personally, I’d use what you’ve found. If they seem too easy to install (ie; not enough interference), put a little tack weld on the back. All it has to do is keep them from rotating when you install or remove wheels. But that’s just me. If someone has a good reason to say that’s a bad idea, pay attention to them.

The general rule of thumb I was taught to use with threaded studs, bolts, and machine screws and nuts was that atleast two threads are supposed to poke out of the end of the nut for proper thread engagement since most of the time, they have a tapered end to make installation of the nuts easier. Because of the length of the lug nuts, that practice doesn't seem to be the norm. Alsong as a decent amount of the lug nut is engaging the threads, you should be good.

Without a proper tech manual to guide otherwise, and based on how much lug is normally engaing the nut on vehicles, I would think you are ok but it is less than I would typically feel ok with. Most standard nuts are shorter than what a lug nut is by a good margin. So, I think you will be fine.

I've also read that 2 threads past is best practice. Also somewhere I've heard thread engagement should be the same length as the diameter of the stud. 7 or 8 threads would seem to be that...
