Hi all, need some help troubleshooting an issue I’m having on my 1983 Ranger. Just picked it up this weekend and drove it home. Ran out of gas (500ft from the gas station, tough luck) and haven’t been able to get it to start up since.
The issue: cranks fine and starter sounds good, but can’t get it to turn over even for a second. Not getting fuel spray in carburetor (Motorcraft 2100) when pumping the gas.

Already tried: Starting fluid and adding a small amount of gas directly to the carburetor. Also disconnected the fuel line and checked the filter, it looks fine enough. Tried injecting a small amount of fuel into the fuel line to try to force air out of the fuel pump. Tried holding the gas pedal down to vent off any flooding. Letting it sit overnight.

So my question is two part, it doesn’t seem like I’m getting fuel into the carburetor and it also doesn’t seem like I’m getting spark since I can’t get any combustion from fuel added directly at the carburetor.

From my research it seems like the mechanical fuel pump doesn’t do well at lower rpm’s. It also sounds like the Duraspark distributor can fail from excessive cranking.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like two problems...

No fuel
No spark

Test for spark first... if none... put a new DuraSpark box in it. If you run DuraSpark... you should have a spare anyway.

Once it sparks... address the fuel.

If ya ran it out and put a gallon in it... might not be enough to allow the pump to pull it up and pump it out.
