truck runs, front lamps work when i pull the knob, blinkers work. when i push the nob in, my tail lights stay on draining my battery. not sure where to start...

is it the tail lights? or brake lights? if it were taillights the instrument cluster would stay illuminated too. because they are on the same circuit

I have seen when the pedal pivots wear, and the pedal under its own weight sags just enough to trigger the brake lights. this can be verified by lifting upward on the pedal and seeing if they go off

I believe the front park lamps are the same circuit as well. I'd check for a short in the brake light circuit. Maybe a bad switch? I'd also believe cammeddrz's idea of the sagging pedal.

brake lights stay on. and i lifted up on the pedal and they didnt go out. i then pulled the two wires that hook up to the the brake pedal under the dash and then they went out.

I found that the hot and ground wire that hook up to the pedal, iff you push up on the lil box on the pedal brake lights stay on, and if you push it down lights wont come on if you push brake. but right in between you push the pedal lights come on release the pedal and lights go out.

now im dealing with reverse lights not coming on when Ishift into reverse

Sounds like it's time to get the test light out. Check to see if the switch is plugged into the trans and then follow it back from there.

Hey I'd hate to thread jack but I'm havin the completely opposite problem!!
I just got done swapping the 90 4.0 and dash outta a ranger,

My dash illumination light is always on even with key off and I have no running lights,
I have brake lights and turn signals but no lights...

Does someone have dealership wiring diagrams, this Ning is fiving me headaches
I spent 2 hrs today poking around with the test light and got nothing
I'm using the 86 multi switches with the 90 wiring harness
Got my headlights, brights and hazards all working but no running lights
