Not sure if this is the appropriate place for asking this, if not, please point me to the correct place.

I bought a 1999 b3000 a few weeks ago. Has 141,800 miles. I did a trans pan service on it and noticed the servo heat shield is missing. Where can I find a heat shield for it? Has anyone fabricated a simple servo heat shield? If so, how did you do it? Thanks in advance!

Hello there:

the term *servo* would be the English reference to the brakes vacuum booster, assuming that is what you're referring to the Ranger/B series Mazda's don't make use of a heat shield at all.

No, not referring to the brakes. Truck has automatic transmission which has two servo pistons that tighten the bands to “brake” the clutches. The two servos have covers accessible from the outside housing of the transmission. On this particular truck model a catalytic converter is about 4 inches from the two servo covers. There is supposed to be a heat shield that clips onto the transmission pan housing to shield the servos from the heat of the catalytic converter.

aaaaaaah, I know what you're referring to now.......
you have the 4r44e trans, the trans itself has no shields attached along the right side, but, the converters (both of them) should each have a stainless heat shield that is spot welded around them.

I do believe that the 5r55e does tho but one would have the 4 L engine with that trans.

I see. I may have been looking at a 5r56e when I saw the heat shield. I still think it’d be a good idea for this transmission as well.

I don't disagree with you, having one there couldn't hurt.

Still wish I could find one. Thanks.

Easiest thing would be to hit up a junk yard and see if you can find one off a 5r55e, or hit up the classified section.

I’ll try that. Should work from any with the 5r55e shouldn’t it?

I would expect so, there are some differences, between the engines and 4wd/2wd transmissions though.
