Hello all. When I purchased my Ranger it had an aftermarket cruise control setup installed. A couple of days ago it tried to kill me so its got to go. I looked over the guide to install OE cruise control on the forums ( https://www.therangerstation.com/fo...plete-oem-cruise-control-installation.160781/ ). My truck has the plug on the right apron beneath just below the fender and the plugs under the panel so jackpot there. But the question comes about the interchangeability of cruise control servos. Since my truck doesn't have it from the factory my local dealership won't look up parts they can't get from the VIN. My local salvage yard has one part# XL2F-9C734-AA and he said it's a 2000 model year. The a different servo I found has a base part number of 9c735 when I look it up on this website: https://www.fordpartsgiant.com/oem-ford-cruise_control_servo.html?vin=&make=Ford&model=Ranger&year=2002&submodel=&extra1=6 Cyl 3.0L&extra2=5-Speed Automatic Transmission 5R44E&filter=() . I know manufacturers change part numbers sometimes and say things like 'supersedes' older part number. Is there a good way to find out what part numbers are compatible with my truck? Thanks for reading!

I accidentally posted this on the wrong page so this is a repost. My bad.

Searching by part number really isn't helping me. I guess the main question is if anyone has tried substituting servos or if anyone knows if there is some kind of parts interchange?

For anyone looking for a Cruise Control Servo for your Ranger go to Ebay Motors. For my case i simply typed in "2002 Ranger Cruise Servo" and a bunch popped up. For a lot of them they will have an interchangeability for what years it works for. These factory numbers for used servos should all be compatible with my 2002 Ranger:
6L5U-9C735-AA, 1L5F-9C735-AA, 6L5Z9C735AA, 1F2066310A, 1F2066310, 1F2066310A, 1L5F9C735AA, 1L5FAA, 6L5U9C735AA, 6L5UAA, 7L5A-9C734-AA. As a note just because it pops up under a search doesn't mean it fits, you'll want to double check part numbers etc.

So I installed the cruise control components and the cruise control worked first try. The parts I used were as follows:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/265397702586 (Steering Wheel Buttons. They came with the wiring).

https://www.dormanproducts.com/p-102185-525-228.aspx (Clockspring for Ranger with Cruise Control).

Used Chassis ECM Cruise Control Servo Assembly Part# 6L54-9C734-AA. It came with the mounting bracket to the firewall as well as the throttle cable.

Everything bolted right in. The only modifications I had to do was trim approximately 1/2 inch off of the plastic on the column so they buttons would fit. Forgot to take a picture of trimmed plastic. Can confirm https://www.therangerstation.com/fo...plete-oem-cruise-control-installation.160781/ Is a good tech article.
