I have been dealing with some misfires in my 2.3L '97 Ranger. I have codes for a misfire in cylinders 2 and 3 as well as for my Evap Control system. Whenever I drive my truck up to a stop sign and put it in neutral my RPMs will dip down, and my truck will idle rough for about 10 seconds. It will then correct itself and work fine until the next time I have to stop. After I drive it for a bit, particularly after the highway, this problem will go away. I have replaced all my spark plugs and wires and replaced my MAF sensor but neither of those worked. I am going to perform a leak down compression test soon to try and narrow down the issue.

Since it is in cylinders 2 and 3 I believe it could possibly be a coil issue. Are there any good ways I can test this without a multimeter? Are there any other diagnostic tests I can perform to help narrow down this issue?

Every rainy day Ford changed their ignition system styles. I do not know what your particular engine has, but if it has multiple coils that can be swapped, swap the coils and see if the problem moves.

Swapping the coils between the drivers and passenger side would be the simplest way to isolate the coils
