Rebuilding a M50D-HD

It's not supposed to be a separate piece at all. It's just the input shaft.

The front of 2wd's and 4x4's are the same. Only the output shaft/tailhousing are different.

If nothing else is fucked, it's not like it costs anything to try and get the new input shaft in there without dropping the other shafts. I've never seen a video of anybody doing it, I just remember reading posts claiming it was possible.

From the images it looks like the input shaft is broken right behind the small gear.

You'll have to pull the bearing off the back, and then remove the 5th/reverse gears, then pull the rear bearing plate/bearing to get it completely apart.

All of the videos I've seen, it is 2 separate pieces.

Or do you mean the dog teeth?

I thought it was just the dog teeth that gave but I'm not really sure what I'm looking at.

Thanks for the clarification on gears on the tail end.

What are your thoughts on the steel bearing housings?

Your input shaft is definitely broken... look at THIS, must have just been a bad part or the pocket bearing is going out or something

That bearing is annoying to pull, I had to make extensions for a 2 jaw puller to get it off...

The input shaft is separate from everything behind it, but the 4th-gear dog teeth are part of the input shaft.

You want a whole new input shaft for a 4.0 trans.

I look into them.
Thanks.
The shift rail is whats on the top cover, right? If so, its fine.

What is a "shift dog"?
If what you're calling the slider, is what i know as the collar, its fine. It engages into 3rd without a problem.
Im leaning toward the teeth on the shaft but I've only ever seen those go with high hp applications. Not saying its impossible just have a hard time believing that may be the problem here.
Im going to try to take it apart today.

it's the 3 small tabs inside the collar. when the collar moves it presses one end of the dogs against the syncro.
they are like a rocker switch, press 1 end for 3rd, other end for 4th.

Ya, I called the place recommended for parts and the guy I talked to sent me a pic of what my input shaft should look like. Order for a new one is placed.

Im assuming you're referring to the bearing on the tail end.
I just used 2 pry bars and it came off. Little bit of a struggle but not much.

And idk what you were trying to show me but this is what popped up.

I took it apart after work. I know what you're saying.
I appreciate you taking the time to explain it.

Sorry about that, computers don't really do what I want them to anymore... I was trying to link to an input shaft on ebay...

The rear bearing on the output shaft, when I did mine a couple years ago I could not find a puller that would fit between the bearing and gear as well as be deep enough so I took a Proto 2 jaw puller and made extensions for it to get around that bearing...

Ya, i edited my previous comment. Didn't think you would reply so fast. Lol. Appreciated though.

I just used 2 pry bars and got it off easier than I thought it should be.
