Hey all,
I'm usually a lurker in these types of forums, until I actually have something worthy to add (that hasn't already been covered). I recently acquired a 2006 XLT 4.0 with roughly 166k miles. The engine seems pretty sound--previous owner was pretty religious on getting the oil changed. There does appear to be an issue with the rear diff pinion seal and a coolant leak that I haven't had a chance to fully track down. Records show the thermostat being replaced twice within the last 15k miles, and I hope I'm wrong with my initial suspicion that the water pump is weeping. I had a similar issue with a 1994 explorer a while back which led to a fun learning experience.
Glad to have found y'all. Thanks in advance for the sharing all the experience and knowledge. Forums like this have been a godsend for all my vehicles.
Cheers,
-Mike
p.s. Sorry for the copy/paste of this intro from another Ranger-based forum that I found a few days prior to this one. Folks here seem a bit more active.
