PlumCrazy's Build

Did some work last night.

Got my 760 long side shaft last night and picked up some Spicer joints.

The old joints were is good shape, but showed how cheap they were when a bearing cap actually crumbled when I hit it with a brass punch. I would expect hardened bearings to split and have a sharp crack, but these deformed and broke apart like cast aluminum.lol

I didn't realize that the ring gear had to come off to slip out the crosspin, so that added some unexpected work. I also didn't realize the crosspin would have a roll pin retainer instead of a bolt. I thought the po had twisted a bolt off in it at first.

I had to trim about a 1/2" off the short side inner and about a 1/4" off the long side inner since the blocks in the spool push the shafts out a 1/4" on each side. The fullsize short side inner is 3/8" longer than the EB from the get go.

I still need to get the wheel bearings and seals done before Bundy, but it got late last night and I called it quits. So ill do those tonight since the passenger actually has some hard spots when you roll it.

Lookin good dude!

I noticed broncograveyard.com sells the passenger side shaft for an EB that fits a 760X joint. That's the way I'll be going once I narrow this pig down.

Thats where I got my shaft.

Wheel bearings done. Pass side was worse than I thought.

I finally moved my track bar over a hole on my bracket to center up the axle, but now its too far over and I cant adjust my drag link enough to center up the steering wheel and still have decent amount of thread engagement.

I am going to add a hole between the two sets I have so I can get axle centered and adjust my steering wheel.

Does anyone know if extra long 3/4" rodends exist? If the threaded shank was 1/2" longer I would feel a lot safer.

I dont believe there is but you can always cut/sleeve your exhisting track bar for a temporary measure. It's kinda hokey and halfassed, but it would get you through for a week or so.

I need to extend my drag link, not my track bar.

If i move the hole back in a 1/2" for the trackbar mount ill be good. That will leave atleast 1" of thread engagement on both rod ends.

Only took me a week but I got through all the build, awesome project!

Thanks.

Drilled a new set of holes for the track bar mount, now the axle is centered up, its parallel to the drag link, and my steering wheel is straight.

Fluids and loading up are on tomorrows checklist.

I'm digging your build Plum, so far i've read through the entire thread and shouted YOINK! on some ideas :D for my 88 Ranger build.

Keep up the good work man, Rep added :headbang:

No major malfunctions really.

Discovered that rubber valve stems are junk when I one broke off in the parking lot while I was airing down. And ripped one half off at some point during the day.

Hydro assist is in the near future after wheeling all day with a spool up front I learned that its really hard to turn.lol

Put the doubler to use and I was impressed and pleased with how much it helps.

Also found out that need to clearance my bumper a little more. My tire caught it pretty bad when i stuffed it.lol. I twisted it up and nearly blew a tire.

I wish I had a vid of the launch that stood the truck up on the back bumper and smashed in the skid.lol

Also scratched the bed a little more.

We all took a little body damage, but I'm pretty sure Sampson took home the most.
