need to replace gear box

When I was in my accident I was hit on the driveside tire. The steering was whacked, but it still worked. I rebuilt the front end and had it aligned. It drove crazy, it was squirrely at high speeds. With advice I changed the steering gearbox and my wheel was now also off. The pitman arm is keyed so it can only go on one of 4 way, but only one will work, and the steering shaft is D-shaped so it will only go one way too.

Come to find out it was the alignment. I took it back to Ford but they wouldn't touch it since I changed out the box by myself. So I drove it home. Adjusted the tie rod out 4 turns on one side, and in 4 turns on the other. Wheel was straight, and 10K later all is well.

My point. It probably screwed up you alignment.

I have pulled my gearbox out twice, due to the first being messed up threads on the high pressure side port.

The Pitman arm puller is the only safe way to pull the arm, a placed a seatbelt on the steering wheel, and had no problems with alignment after. I did buy a rebuilt unit, works good, as I have gone up to 10,000 feet on a dirt road, no problems yet.
