well about 2 weeks ago i changed everything inside the bell housing of my tranny (new slave, flywheel, clutch pressure, EVERYTHING). hooked everything up. pumped like crazy. clutch worked AWESOME for about 2 weeks.

now when cold the tranny will go into first no problem and so on.

drive around for awhile say 30-45 min. clutch has a B!t#H of a time getting to first from a stop.

it also did this before the clutch change.

i did swap a master and line i pulled from a 91 explorer, just threw it in. pumped it up, cracked the bleeder screw. did the same thing.

im leaning heavily on air trapped in the master...

i dunno if this is relevent but my ranger is on 35's with 3.55 gears... :headbang:

What transmission, what clutch, what trans fluid?

That sounds a lot like what gear lube does in an M5OD.

Does it make a difference if you push the clutch in, wait a second or two, then try to put the shifter in first? Mine is also a bit tough to put in gear unless you wait the second or two with the clutch pushed in. (mine is an M5OD-R1)

yea mine is a m50d. sometimes. but it has atf in it. it may be a bit low tho...

Your's sounds like worn syonchros.

The OP has basically described the symptoms that caused Ford to change the fluid spec of the M5OD from gear lube to ATF.

I don't know for sure that that is his problem, it could also be worn synchros, but those would normally cause it all the time or in only one gear.

+1! Syncro for #'s3 & 4 puked on me last year and had to replace the tranny. And yes, ATF (DEX III) is the fluid to use.

It strange that I replaced all my clutch stuff just like you and the same thing happened......

Good luck!

i do have a spare m5od...so im not worried. i did notice that when i quickly jab the clutch to the floor till it taps it will go into gear easier.... weird eh? im thinking air in master.

Yeah, this tranny has seen better days. It had the leak problem when I got it and the fluid was low, not sure how long it was run like that. The previous owners (my sister and her husband) weren't much into maintenance. But it only needs to make it 15,000 more miles before I do an engine/tranny swap, I figure 200,000 miles is all I should really ask of the 2.9.

so what u guys think? air in the master? im gunna ask my dad to give me a hand in bench bleeding it since my hand is messed up ATM. gunna test it again after.

You can tell about clutch problems by peddle feel and the way it goes in when your stopped.Remember those don't bleed easy I bleed them backwards with a rubber hose and a food injecting syringe.

We will see about that. I'll be asking at least 220K of mine.

+1 on this. I have had 1 clutch master bleed easy on me, and it was for my buddy's heep.

They are usually bad enough that when I already had to buy a new master and slave that I spent the extra $50 to buy one that was already bled.

yea well i just got back from driving. stone cold the thing shifted fine when stopped. by the time i got home (all city driving) it would not go into gear at all when stopped and clutch was released. i had to ram it into gear to get it in. every stop light i came to i had to put it into first before i came to a stop and keep the clutch pushed in.

so im thinking master isnt bled and ill have to bleed it and might as well crack the slave aswell and run it out alittle once the master is bled.

Go ahead and bleed it. Check the fluid level first, if it is low you probably have a leak.

Also, what trans do you have, and what fluid are you using?
