Need help with the PATS on a 1999 ranger motor.

Hello all, me and my father are working on a project where we take a 1999 ford ranger with the 3.0L v6 with the auto tranny+electric overdrive and stuffed it into a suzuki samurai, we are having issues because we just found out that the ranger had something called the pats with the ignition ring and coded key, we cant get the motor to fire. How could we solve this issue? is there a way to bypass the system? we are not using the ranger steering components.
 
Get a 98 PCM, does not have pats and should plug in fine. All the pats does is verify that the chip is correct and sends power to the fuel pump. Im sure (not positive) you could run power to the fuel pump via a switch

Easiest way is to just get a 98 PCM double check the wire diagrams make sure the pins are the same, don't want to fry the new computer so don't go plugging it in before reading the diagrams, may need to repin a couple wires but I doubt it. Should plug right in.

You can pick up a new computer at a junkyard for $50 (at least around here you can)

I think the PATS does more than just the fuel pump. I think it also inhibits the PCM from firing (supplying the ground) the injectors. I say this because a shut down engine will still have around fuel pressure and would start and then die and they don't. They just crank forever.

CP2295 is right about getting a pre-PATS PCM cause I don't think you can get around the PATS problem with a 99 PCM.

I have another question though, what is the fuel pressure you are supplying to the fuel rail. In the 99 you need at least 40 psi for it to fire. It won't run at 40; but, it may start and then die. In the Ranger, if the key in run, when the engine gets below something around 3/400 rpm the pcm shuts down the injectors and the fuel pump for safety.
 
You can also buy an aftermarket OBD tuner and have the PATS functions deleted. That's pricey, but it would firm up the shifts in the trans, and they may be able to dig up a few extra hp, tq or mpgs in the custom tune they write too.
 
99 3.0 key on engine off should have 65psi returnless fuel system (no return line back to the pump)

Return systems have 40 psi (97 and older)

Also if you floor it and crank the injectors will not fire

I just thought of something. Do you have access to the 99 truck you got the engine from. If you do and you have the PATS stuff and a key for it you can tape the key to the PATS antenna and you will be good to go. Rental Car companies used to do that so they wouldn't have to pay the big bucks for a new key when the customer lost the keys (which for some reason they seem do all the time).
