Question everything
Here's the passenger side rockers of my 00' 3.0L with 150K miles. Runs perfect, just wanted to see if there was any obvious excessive wear.

It seems the heavier oil deposits like to collect in the pocket of the rockers. I did clean this side up, but haven't touched the driver's side.

Is there any miracle goo that can collect and suspend these deposits long enough to make it to the oil filter.?

I just cut open my oil filter and it is doing it's job collecting these deposits. They aren't gritty and just smear into sludge. Is there anywhere else that likes to collect this stuff like the rockers do?

I cleaned mine, years ago. It was so bad, the oil wouldn't drain right at extreme up-angles. I just cleaned everything under the valve covers real.good by scraping, brushing, spraying with brake cleaner, wiping with rags and blowing it out with air. Then I did an oil change and added a little bit of Marvel Mystery oil. Then, after driving a few hundred miles, I changed the oil again.

More frequent oil changes and maybe substitute 1/2 quart of oil with ATF.

Did you do before and after with the valveoline restore and protect?

I thought I remembered you posting pictures of the inside of the head on your sohc.

I got it with 137k and I go 3k between oil changes.

Consider a different brand of oil. Every customer I encountered with sludge in their engine claimed to change at 3000 miles, the only car that I could confirm the schedule belonged to a local parts store. They brought their own Oilzum oil for us to use servicing their salesman's car.
Do you do a lot of stop and go city driving? If so that's would dilute the oil faster than 3000 miles of driving longer distances.
I still run Motorcraft in everything (except my Mustang), Ranger, Escape, Husqvarna and John Deere lawn tractors, generator, and wood splitter. The Mustang's thrust bearing would wear enough to need replacing every couple years when I was drag racing, probably due to the stiff pressure plate. Mobil 1 fixed it.
I'd use Valvoline or Mobil as an alternative. No Quaker State, Oilzum, Amsoil, Walmart store brand, or Pennzoil. Jiffy Lube belongs to Pennzoil and I refuse to buy their products because, if techs got 1/10th the respect they deserve the concept of Jiffy Lube wouldn't occur to anyone.

I've always used the black jug of Valvoline high mileage which is a synthetic blend. I bought it with a leaking timing cover with a brand new water pump including a broken 8mm bolt. So I'm assuming the previous owner might have let a few oil changes slip by.
