My credo
If you expect the worst and hope for the best, you're already planning for failure.
2.3L Lima engine in a 96XLT Supercab 5sp and my exhaust is rusting out and falling apart. Now I don't currently have access to a welder, but I'm noticing significant power loss during acceleration due to the massive exhaust leaks and am looking for simple ways to do some patchwork until I can afford a full system upgrade. Any suggestions? Also to note, I've lost the main rear exhaust hangar so there's a lot of weight pulling down on the muffler and tail pipe that's contributing to more advancement in the leaks.

Steel wire and soup cans?

I'm thinking exhaust shouldn't affect power on a 96 much unless it's before or within about a foot after the O2 sensors.

Hose clamps will hold a lot more weight than you'd think. You can use 2 or 3 of them to replace the hanger if necessary.

I didn't think it would add much either but I've been noticing more exhaust noise and smell and seems like power loss during acceleration and at top speed. Poor little truck can't maintain eyes limit if driving against the wind in 5th gear lol

I've noticed myself that extra noise tends to make my foot slip a little on the throttle cause it sounds so bad. Hard to hold it to floor when something sounds like it's gonna break.

Pedal to the floor and if the wind isn't at my back pushing me, I can watch the speed continuously drop from from 70 down all the way to about 65. Is frustrating when all of the roads in my way to work are 70mph speed limit roads. Trying to maintain that in 4th gear at 3100 rpm eats my gas mileage. Just figured I needed to do something before all the exhaust falls off my truck lol

I have trouble maintaining 70mph if there is any kind of uphill to the road at all. That's with a 4.0 in 5th gear 29.5in tires and 3.73 gears.
