Do mirrors from a 10th gen f150 fit a 4th gen ranger?

I am, but I’m assuming you’re sitting behind a 4.0l with 8.8” axles and 410. Differential. With 4 wheel drive so you have a low range too.

You know what they say about assuming...

5.0, 31 spine Explorer 8.8 and 3.73's with limited slip.

Overloading the axle will hose the wheel bearings/bearing surfaces on the axle shafts.
Too much shock loading will break the shafts.
Too many one wheel peels will kill the spider gears
Spline issues... pretty rare. I have only heard of lunchbox lockers damaging them and that was only one and it was pretty recent.

About 8k overall (i.e. trailer plus cargo) is where it starts getting sketchy because these trucks tolerate about 500lb of tongue weight before they start getting sketchy and you don't really have a lot of wiggle room to reduce tongue weight before handling becomes unacceptable and with the trailer outweighing the truck 2:1 you can't really let it sway at all because once it starts you're basically along for the ride.

Someone who has a heavier truck than me (i.e. not a SCSB) and/or is willing to set up one of those fancy weight distributing hitches could probably do far more. Someday I'll probably put a gooseneck in. That would really help.

The limiting factor in practice is what you can do a hill start with if manual. I find myself starting out in low range a lot at the upper end and then shifting it into high at a several mph roll. Deeper gears would help too.

Loading/tow limitations exist for a good goddamn reason.

I've overloaded everything I've ever had.. I have NO personal issues with occasionally 'over-working' a vehicle.. but there QUICKLY becomes a point where a guy isnt doing anything other being a danger to himself and everyone else on the fckng road.. all because what? Macho manly man points? LoOk WhAt My RaNGeR Can Do! Too lazy to make another trip back and forth? To cheap to rent a vehicle for the afternoon thats big enough to move whatever it is in one trip?

Best case Ontario.. guy towing over the rated limit only muffs himself up along with his rig, trailer, and load along with a tree on the side of the road.. and then immideately gets told by his insurance carrier that they're denying his claim because he was.. well... being a jackass.

Worse case Ontario is a guy hurts or(God forbid) kills some innocent person because he was... Again... Being a jackass.

Real good way to ruin your life.

If someone needs to start in mf'ing low range to get their load moving, and then switch to high... Common sense dictates that load is way beyond too f'ing big for the vehicle. Sorry common sense ain't that common anymore.

In my own defense, not that one should have to justify actions coming from mental illness, the way I mounted my spare tire up high right behind the passenger door makes it almost impossible to see that side of the trailer as you’re just driving down the road. If I make a small turn to the right, then I can see it, but I’d like to see it before I make any turn to the right. I can see the driver side, but just barely.

I think if the mirrors were bumped out about 10 inches, it would vastly improve the visibility of the trailer, and of course road safety. But I don’t want big wings on that truck ruining my careful design and aesthetics. That’s why the flip in and flip out appealed to me.

I’m also planning for when I build the converter dolly and add the second trailer……

2nd trailer.. when?! Glorious would be the only way to describe such a rig lol.. it's nearly a masterpiece already. She will live on in infamy for a good long while

Regardless of what kind of Ranger you drive, we don't promote or support the promotion of things that are illegal, like towing over the rated limit of the vehicle in use. Getting caught doing that will result in a ticket, at minimum. Not to mention the insurance likely not approving the claim for the same reason if something gets damaged. What you do in your own personal life is your business but we will not support such activities on the forum or the promotion of such activities.

Among other things, do you really believe insurance would even consider covering you if you cause an accident while hauling a load beyond what the vehicle is rated for? Best of luck with that in addition to any tickets/charges filed.

The distinction don't seem to be aware of here is intent. Insurance doesn't cover stuff you wanted to happen. Insurance covers the accidental, even if unlawful or negligent.

If I run you over because I'm on my cell phone and not paying attention it's covered. If I run you over on purpose because I hate you and ran you down, not covered. If my box truck blows up a federal building because I suck at hauling fertilizer, covered. If my box truck blows up a federal building because I stuffed it full of fertilizer and lit the fuse, not covered. If I mow down a bunch of people in New Orleans because I'm geriatric and hit the wrong pedal, covered. If I mow down a bunch of people in New Orleans because I'm an extremist and want to, not covered.

Liability insurance covers what you are liable for. Violating the law on overloading vehicles is no different than violating the law on speed or on how many beers you're allowed to have or whether you're allowed to use your cell phone while driving. As long as you weren't trying to cause an accident by doing so you're almost certainly covered by your liability insurance. Like I said, there would be no point in having mandatory liability insurance if they could just not cover people for unlawful activities, especially considering how much law violating is going on on the roads basically all the time.

Also, you might want to consider that the forum owner is a retired police officer. So, comments about licking of boots and so on are probably not in your best interest. It would behoove you to back off.

I thought we were just bullshitting at this point. Did we actually establish whether the mirrors in question fit? Because I wouldn't mind an upgrade for my truck.

I just looked Ranger, 9th and 10th gen F150 up on Rockauto and the bolt patterns don't even look the same and the 9th gen has an extra cast boss. I think finding a mirror from an application that has a smaller all around mounting footprint and then making an adapter plate might be the better choice but I have no idea what application that would be.

Maybe not an exact fit, but that’s pretty doggone close. I’m sure it would be easy to make work and still have it look oem. I’m still not totally convinced in my head that one of those generations of mirrors won’t bolt right up to a ranger.

I think I said it, but I’m definitely going to put wider mirrors on the Road Ranger. I’m 99% sure that will be putting the brackets from a first GEN on the door, and then using the L-shaped swivel heads on top that you can swing inward or outwards. This and I have to get the brackets from the scrapyard, clean them up and install them, so it may take a little while. I’ll make a point of finding this post and showing what I do when I do it.

That still leaves me with the old plastic bracket that are part of the window frame. I have two options on that, maybe three.

My preferred option is to somehow modify that for my wide angle/Blindspot mirror, if I could do it so it looks like it belongs there..
Second option is to just make a sheet metal or aluminum plate, and paint it the color of the truck and maybe put a graphic on it.
Third option would be to cut off the protruding part carefully, and reshape the majority that’s left to just kind of a gentle bump out by welding plastic in or maybe fiberglass. I think it was @Snoranger who cut a hole in the middle of his dashboard to put gauges in where the air vent was, and then he reformed the remaining plastic so it looked like factory. It looked great.

Again, I’ll repost when I get around to it, but it might be February or March, a few priorities in front of that
