been using the mustang pump in those carriers since the early 90s...pretty straight forward.

The cleanest way I have done on these is to replace the low pressure pump with one of these:

KEMSO 340LPH High Performance Fuel Pump for Ford Ranger 1989-1997 | eBay

The KEMSO 340 high pressure pump is capable of supporting applications of up to around 700-800bhp. Manufacturer: KEMSO. 1 x Genuine KEMSO 340 Fuel Pump. Each pump individually tested. 2 x Gradient density Fuel strainers, with Lock ring.

It's not a 100% bolt in pump and requires just a couple minor modifications to the sending unit but then you can delete all the unnecessary junk in the fuel system. I did that on my old '88, my '86, and a couple others.

What exactly did you cut off? What year pump? The pics are great but I need context.

I would assume the manufacturers are putting hose rated for submersion in their kits. But we all know what happens when we assume things.

For anyone else messing with this stuff, any hose installed in the tank needs to be rated for submersion in fuel. Translation, very expensive. Regular fuel hose usually has a inside liner of good fuel rated rubber, with a regular rubber jacket around it. Gets hard and cracks if it's in fuel very long.

though the old standard efi line worked fine until e15 was the most common fuel. every old system i look at has cracks as well.
