Can Forscan deactivate the TPMS system?

Inspections can be a pain, some of the people there do not care very much about anything. I have multiple stories, but here is the best one.

I remember when NJ had safety inspections. I had my 92 Explorer at the time and took it in (probably around 2007). They put it on the dyno machine where they speed it up. Turns out I picked up a bolt in the tire and it kept clicking as it went around. I failed for it. I was not happy, so I went back to the parking lot, put the full size spare on, and got back in line. When I went to go through again, I failed, because the odometer had not changed (they do not go by the .1 factor, just whole numbers). The inspector got snippy so I politely asked him if he remembered me from 30 minutes ago, then asked for his supervisor. When I explained to him and showed him that the two failed reports were from 30 minutes apart, he laughed and told me to drive around the block to get it to change, then come back and he would pass me, which fortunately he did.
Back in the day, with the even older testing, I failed for almost everything on my ‘79 f350... emissions, light covers, windshield glazing, convex mirrors that covered more than 20% of the viewing surface, etc. They had the brake test with the 4 little fluid tubes that showed the percentage the of braking power... the guy hit the brakes, his face bounced off the steering wheel, and all 4 tubes maxed out. He got out of my truck with a bloody lip, punched the pass box on the card, said “your brakes are good”, and passed out.

Gotta love ohio, the weather may be bad at times but unless you get stopped at a random s.h.p. vehicle inspection (which ive not seen one for years) you can pretty much drive anything at all.
The only negative thing about ohio is that theres a $300 additional surcharge when you renew license registration if you have a hybrid or electric vehicle. So I will never have one outside of a golf cart or scooter.

The surcharge is to make up for the gas tax you dont pay with EV. I'll have to find the % and figure out how much I pay in hidden tax. It might make the $300 look like chicken feed.

This why my 2019 Ranger rides like it does. Not the tires this time nor the springs. The dampening of the shocks is to light. I’m definitely buying stiffer shocks when these ones wear out. I never understood the affinity people have with their vehicles “floating” along as they drive down the road.

The Explorers had lower pressure for softer tires to encourage "body roll" in turns rather than "barrel roll" in turns.

I don't know why the newer Rangers are the way they are, our Bronco is really rather firm. Logically one would think the truck would be stiff and the offroad SUV would be softer. :dntknw:

I’ve been told it’s and FX4 thing. The non-FX4 Rangers have a stiffer suspension.

Seems to me that it should be the opposite so that there is less chance of a bottom strike during suspension compression and for better control and handling on the trail. But what do I know?

Up until now, stiffer dampening (to a point) has always been viewed as better to those who drive off road. You don’t want the vehicle shaking itself apart either, so there is a fine line.

They should have called it forscin lol.

Almost. Cuyahoga and all of its bordering counties have bi-annual emissions inspections for anything 25 years and newer. We don't have to pay for it anymore (it was $20 15+ years ago), but I'm of the opinion that it's all or none, meaning the entire state should, or shouldn't have to do it, having 7 counties do emissions inspections is pretty pointless.

Like was already stated, the fee tacked on the registration is to make up for the fact you're not paying gas tax.

Just an fyi Racsan, a close friend of mine just bought a 2006 Prius for his step daughter. I asked him about the registration fees here in Ohio, and he told me it's supposed to be $100 for hybrids and $200 for EVs. But he was not charged any extra fee at all when he registered the Prius last week.

ok, I thought I had read $300 somewhere, didnt mean to be incorrect.

My favorite about the emissions testing program is the ad hoc implementation of it. Select areas are required to get the testing done to make sure they are in compliance but nothing is done for other areas nor is prevailing winds taken into consideration. Beaver and Allegheny counties are penalized for what happens to the West of us. Meanwhile, the counties North and South of us do not require testing. The fact that there is any testing to the West of us is something I didn't know about. Only 35 counties in the Commonwealth of PA require testing. The other 42 do not have to have it.

Now, if the money light is on during the annual safety inspection everyone does have to get done, then they will have to get the issue(s) fixed that caused the light to be lit before they will pass. Being that the CEL rule is in effect AND that emissions testing uses the same system that lights the light, it's just a way for the state to fleece certain people more and should be done away with. The compliance testing is being done every day on every vehicle that has OBDII.

Emissions testing is usually base on the density of vehicles that use the roads in an area, vehicle registration data
Rural areas, lower number of vehicles registered, are less likely to require testing

1996 was the drop dead year for ALL vehicles sold in US/Canada to be OBDII compliant, so 26 years ago
25 year old rule is now 1997 model year

CEL being on denotes a problem with a monitored system
If you don't know how to fix the problem then you take it to someone who does

If you know how to fix it then you should do so, as soon as possible because...............a REAL problem may come up and you wouldn't know about it because CEL was already on, and that could cost you even more money

I grew up in So. Cal. 50+ years ago, and KNOW what bad smog was like, it was "out of control" there, healthy teenager and could barely breath deeply when playing sports

Emissions testing................I am all for it
Cash grab, please, what isn't a cash grab when it leaves my pocket and goes into someone elses's :)

NH has had safety inspection forever and started using the Gordon Darby OBD II emissions testing system a few years ago because the feds threatened to pull our federal highway money. It only applies to 96 and newer under 8600 lbs. Fords must have all monitors clear, some of the Asian crap can have up to 3 monitors not ready and still pass somehow. Inspections are performed by dealers and garages, not the state. The Gordon Darby unit reads the VIN in the PCM and compares it to the registration, if the 2 don't match the vehicle passes OBD II inspection but the inspector who's number is on it can be in hot water with the DOT. Some guys were plugging the machine into a different vehicle if they couldn't get the monitors to clear. An independent garage owner got called to a hearing in Concord and was threatened with permanent loss of his inspection station- which would have put him out of business. NH has about a million people, it ain't high density population.

New Hampshire is 21st in population density, 147 people per square mile
Calif is 11th at 250 people per sq/mile

You problem is Massachusetts, its 3rd in density, 897 people per sq/mile
Right next door
So if they have testing then you will have to just to keep all the Boston bean eaters from registering their vehicles in NH

Rural areas, lower number of vehicles registered, are less likely to require testing
Cleveland, which is the epicenter of emissions testing has a population of 1.7 million
Columbus, which has no testing, is 1.6 million
Cincinnati, no testing, 1.7 million.
The main difference between the 3 cities is out of state traffic. We have 6 or 7 major highways that converge in the Cleveland area, with a lot of through traffic. I've always figured it was the population plus the through traffic. Not to mention the Cuyohoga river catching fire 50 years ago..

Whenever a friend says something about how crazy California is with their emissions restrictions, I remind them of how bad the smog was in the 60s-70s. I'm surprised how many of them are completely clueless about it.
