Hello im, im rebuilding my girlfreinds ranger completely to be a good daily. it has a 2.3 with a 2wd a4ld. i was curious for durability if i got a used 92 (because speedometer cable) a4ld 4x4 from behind a 4.0 and swapped the bellhousing, tailshaft, and the valve body from the 85 model (would definitly clean everything well and properly before swapping) if it would fit right in no issue? or even a 93-95 since im swapping the tailshaft it should have the speedo cable. I just want the 6 plant gear sets and the better parts. any suggestions? thanks.

The 2wd and 4wd automatics have different length main/output shafts so you need a complete tear down to switch them, and 4wd shaft won't have the speedo worm gear in any case, just the 2wd had that
So no on the 2wd to 4wd and visa versa
4wd has speedo drive on transfer case output shaft

A4LD was used from 1985 thru 1994
But in 1987/88 another solenoid was added, 3/4 shift, but swapping valve bodies should work
Earlier A4LD has 2 wire connector, 1 solenoid, later 3 wire, 2 solenoids but connector was part of valve body wiring harness
The transmission solenoids must match the computer, i.e. 1 or 2 solenoids

its a single solonoid valve body on the 1985 model and after 90 im pretty sure its a 2. im keeping the factory EECIV on the truck so thats why i wanted to keep the 2 pin or single solonoid valve body, and move it to the newer transmission on the newer transmission if itl bolt right on. is the later 2wd as strong as the 4wd?
