And that is why I avoid stainless. I'm in South Carolina and I'm getting old. I don't think stainless was worth the aggravation in this particular case. If I used good parts and did the job right, I should never need to disassemble it in my remaining lifetime.
Also you're living to 104 now.

Stainless? A little dab will do ya... Anti-sieze that is.

Went to the junk yard today, in search of a Saginaw power steering pump set up for hydroboost service. Got one out of an 05 Avalanche. That just happened to be the easiest one to grab and it looked decent, though dirty. I took the pressure hoses, too, just in case they might work for my setup.

Also snagged a transmission dipstick and tube from an F150. It's shorter and a different shape than the one from my Explorer. But I think I like it better, if it works. This one will come up beside the exhaust manifold and the top will be beside the valve cover near cylinder 2. I think I'll even be able to re-shape the mounting bracket and fasten it with a bolt to an extra threaded hole that is already on the manifold.

The pulley isn't installed yet. I want to add an extra brace to one of the mounting holes on the front of the pump. Once the pulley is reinstalled, that bolt will be impossible to remove or install. I hate power steering pulleys. The interference fit is such a dumb way to mount them.

Finished the steering pump and that's all for today, since I had to go for my echocardiogram this morning. Plus, it is HOT-HOT-HOT out there today. When I got tje pump finished, I tried to put tje serpentine belt on. It's too short. I'll have to order one that is 2" longer. And while trying to force the belt on, I stripped the threads in the tensioner pulley mounting hole. So I need a new tensioner also. Should have stayed out of the shop today.

Pump is mounted. I added a brace in the front. Plus, I had to make a longer stud for one of the rear mounting holes.

Got the pulley installed. Had to repair my cheap Harbor Freight pulley removal/installation tool first.

Did a little bit today. My new oil pan bolts had come in. So I installed and torqued them. I finally got the right length serpentine belt. So that is on. I removed the pittman arm from the steering gear I had gotten from the junkyard. That gave a good fight.

Then, I welded up the special tool I was making for the transmission. Also fabbed up a safetyflag holder for my bicycle and a bracket to mount a flashing red light on the back 9f the bicycle.

Keep in mind the F-150 and Mustang oil pans likely have different depths.

Ok??? Not sure what you're getting at here. I have the Fox Body double sump pan.

Yeah, F-150's use a much different pan.

Just make sure you have to correct oil pick up tube. I think the fox dual sump pan is the shallowest variation, so its unlikely that you could even overlook it.

I think the pickup came with the pan. Anyway, not the original pickup.

More engine details. I figured out how and where I wanted to mount my oil pressure sensor. Ford put it in a tight spot on the block. So I added a braided hose and moved it.

Installed the new belt tensioner since I stripped the threads on the old one. Then, since the tensioner pulley is bigger than the upper idler, I used the pulley off the old tensioner to replace the upper idler. That fine-tuned my belt length so the tensioner now sits in the center of its range of motion.

Added a little anti-seize and snugged up the spark plugs.

Finished smoothing the inside of the passenger side exhaust manifold. Even with a 10" mandrel, I couldn't really get down between cylinders 1 and 2. Then put on the exhaust manifold gaskets and torqued the bolts. Had to shorten 4 of the bolts by about 3/8". Also cleaned the threads for the studs where the y-pipes clamp on and got those studs installed.

All my transmission parts have arrived. I hope to assemble that on Monday. Kind of nervous about assembling an automatic.

This is where I put the oil pressure sensor. That's still the old sensor. I have a new 3-wire sensor to go to my digital dash.

Nothing more to do to this until I get it in the truck.
