And that is why I avoid stainless. I'm in South Carolina and I'm getting old. I don't think stainless was worth the aggravation in this particular case. If I used good parts and did the job right, I should never need to disassemble it in my remaining lifetime.
Also you're living to 104 now.

Stainless? A little dab will do ya... Anti-sieze that is.

Went to the junk yard today, in search of a Saginaw power steering pump set up for hydroboost service. Got one out of an 05 Avalanche. That just happened to be the easiest one to grab and it looked decent, though dirty. I took the pressure hoses, too, just in case they might work for my setup.

Also snagged a transmission dipstick and tube from an F150. It's shorter and a different shape than the one from my Explorer. But I think I like it better, if it works. This one will come up beside the exhaust manifold and the top will be beside the valve cover near cylinder 2. I think I'll even be able to re-shape the mounting bracket and fasten it with a bolt to an extra threaded hole that is already on the manifold.

The pulley isn't installed yet. I want to add an extra brace to one of the mounting holes on the front of the pump. Once the pulley is reinstalled, that bolt will be impossible to remove or install. I hate power steering pulleys. The interference fit is such a dumb way to mount them.

Finished the steering pump and that's all for today, since I had to go for my echocardiogram this morning. Plus, it is HOT-HOT-HOT out there today. When I got tje pump finished, I tried to put tje serpentine belt on. It's too short. I'll have to order one that is 2" longer. And while trying to force the belt on, I stripped the threads in the tensioner pulley mounting hole. So I need a new tensioner also. Should have stayed out of the shop today.

Pump is mounted. I added a brace in the front. Plus, I had to make a longer stud for one of the rear mounting holes.

Got the pulley installed. Had to repair my cheap Harbor Freight pulley removal/installation tool first.
