88 Turbo Ranger resto

Actually I have the harness almost finished lastnite.....Im hoping to fire it up before the weekend.

Slow progress the past few days....heat out in garage has been brutal and then once the sun goes down the bugs are rediculous!!

Anyway...Got the shifter in. Steeda Tri-ax with the handle on backwards. I made a new cover plate for the tunnel and got a new floor seal from 5.0 Resto.

Took a 99 Ranger center console and drilled some small holes in different places...

...then took some 2010 Mustang LED console lights and mounted them on them on the back side. Will be hooked up to the stock wiring for the lights in the original floor shifter.I can pick white, red, blue or green lighting with this but will be using the green since it will match the green lighting in my HVAC panel.

It was hard to get any good pics with them on in the light today but rest assured it looks pretty sweet with the cupholders eluminated with a touch of green.

I also gutted the dash today and started painting it black. Mounting some nice Fosgate 4" speakers in the dash and put an extra 12v port in the cubby above the glovebox.

And my new ACC carpet came....just need to install all that crap sitting on it!

And still plucking along with the wiring...

Dam I wish I could of had weather like this all last week! Got a bunch done today.

Engine harness is finished and turned out really clean. Got relays mounted under hood for fan and fuel pumps that are all wired into the PIMP. Amazing how much time you can spend doing some simple wiring if you want it to look good...I have about 14hours into just the wiring harness.

The new dash is all clean, painted and installed. Speakers are in and wired,Sirius is wired.

Guy stopped by today to look over truck and give me a quote to pinstripe the truck. Very cool guy and looks like he is going to take my ideas and lay them on by hand with paint instead of tape.

And Im waitin for my buddy john to work his magic on some custom stuff I hired him to make for me.Cant wait...you guys will like!

And finally I gotta give a huge thank you to my buddy Phil....I hired Phil also to try and come up with a sweet console/sub box and even though he wasnt happy with how this one came out I gota say I was blown away by what he came up with! Unfortunately this one didnt fit like we planned but after seeing what he can do I must say my expectations were blown away! I have no doubt once the new one is made this piece will be one of the highlights of the truck. Between my two buddies Phil and John they will make this a truely one of a kind interior that will not be easily copied!

looking good man if only you were closer i would give you a hand! and of course do a little photoshoot with the first gen turbo rangers :)

Great work on the whole project! Hope you make some videos for us once it's up and running.

Jim

Sick truck dude! Glad you are TOTM! Keep up the good work, you deserved it!

Thank you all very much! They will be a nice vid of the first burnout!

Contemplating traction bar setups for my 91'. How do you like the way this works?

Feeling pretty good about todays work.

Got the new seats put together and bolted in so I can start cutting floor and figure out the shifter.

Im on the look out for a tilt column now cuz its a tighter fit than I remember in these trucks and its easier than goin on a diet.

Shortened a driveshaft to fit today but pulled a rookie move and welded it up before I made sure the ears were all lined up..u-joints are out of phase now so this will just be a temp. shaft and I will have a much better one made before it see's daily driving.

Here is my junkyard fresh mint dashpad.

I also got the pinion angle set and welded up the spring perches. Then I made the mounts for the Mountianeer traction bars and welded them to the spring plates. I had to cut and sleeve them to get them at the correct length.

Next Im going to start on the interior and wiring. This will take some time to get right but Im still hoping to fire it up in the next two weeks.

Truck hasnt even started yet so I cant say yet. Im far from stock and have no doubts it will hook hard enough to put daylight under the front tires.

Anybody else see what I'm seeing in this pic? Look at the top left corner of the pic.

He posted pictures of that in the build thread.
I believe it is a brace and also acts as the shock mounting location.

Yeah thats a piece of 1.75 DOM added as my upper shock mount. Im not using the stock staggered arangement.

I see what looks like your reflection in that pic

I knew that it was something like that, I'll be doing similar with a cut down explorer cross member. This is what I was referring to. VVV

Good, so someone else does see it. You know how people are always finding the face of Jesus in things. Not saying it's Jesus but was surprised to notice what looked like a face where there shouldn't have been one. I don't think it's a reflection, just discoloration of the metal there caused by heat from welding. Just wandering if any body else had noticed it.

On other note the truck looks to be coming along good. Congrats on the STOTM win. Personally I would have liked to see it running first, but with the amount and quality of work you've put into this you deserved it regardless. I have a feeling that you'll be winning it again sometime next year (if not TOTY this year). How do those Stang seats compare to the bench? I currently have the solid bench seat and really like the way I fit into the truck with it. I want buckets and trying to decide which to go for, most I see loose leg or head room and I don't want that.

Thanks for the kind words! I have poured my heart into this truck over the last 8 months and am very proud of it. I didnt think anybody would vote for a unfinished project for TOTM but I guess other people liked enough...not like I wont have it finished in the next couple weeks anyway! lol

I guess I kinda see the image you guys see......I will check back in a few beers and look again.

Im a big dude. 6ft 1in and 270lbs and with the stock bench I had to squeeze in. Other than the large side bolsters I can get in and out much easier with the buckets. The bonus was that all I had to do was removed the benchseat brackets {60/40 split} and bolt them inplace of the mustang seat brackets and they bolted right in. I will have to remove the headrest tho as they are up against the glass.
