88 gone wild

The guy I know was getting 35 highway mpg with his mega cab plus it was chipped, bigger tires, etc...... Who needs 1200 hourse for in town driving, who needs a 2wd, for that price I would just get 4wd and be done with it. Forgot to say the manual trannies are fine but the autos in dodges are junk. How much was sank into building a 1200 horse cummins. I loves cummins to, sad to see the factory that was in my state closed down due to the american economy taking a plung. But i do live 5 minutes from a CAT (catipilar) plant, love it when they fire up an engine, huge clouds of black smoke. If I do have to do another engine swap, a diesel is going in next, no if, ands, or buts about it.

ya sept its expensive and in most cases a waste to swap a diesel into a truck its not already in. dunno. dont feel like thinkin about it right now haha did an effing ton of reading about it already. im too busy tryin to just make ends meet and get ahead thats 4 sure

I didnt have to do my 2.8 swap, there was nothing wrong with my 2.3, just wanted an engine in my truck that had a little more to it plus my engine was free, but costed me $500 to put in but it was worth it in my eyes. It has 180,000 miles on it and is good to 300,000. Right now I just want it to run right and not look like a diesel going down the road.

more power and low cost? seems reasonable to me. how bout the same power, milage and triple the difficulty and 10 times the cost? thats about what the 4bt would cost u. mods on a 6bt or v8 diesel would be tremendous. originality is the only good side.

im gonna flippin loose it tonight holy cow. so the truck still start like shit. goddam truck. thats why they invented matches

I know theres ahuge difference between carb and FI but when my dads gets warm and he trys to strat it sometimes its a PITA because for some reason its getting to much fuel on start-up. Does black smoke come out of your exhaust when it finally starts? I'm just trying to narrow down somethings its doing to help solve the problem.

I say dont you have that 89 truck? If so how well does its engine run like does it start up great when warmed up and if so what if you switched its computer with old blues computer, or if it comes down to it an engine swap. Just throwing some stuff out there in the open.

no i own 3 other 2.9's and believe it or not i have never seen a 2.9 with power like mine. and the 89s motor is effed.
trust me i drove that death trap for like a month.
no no black smoke. if i get shop to work in i'll start investigating, if not efff that new truck time.

Then it must not be getting fuel immediatly when your trying to start it up when warmed up. You would think on start-up no matter if it is warmed up or not it would "choke it" to help then go back to normal on a FI. Every FI vehicle I've seen start has a high idle at first then back to normal real fast, as rigged up and non original as my fuel system is, my truck even does it. It could be something simple we are over looking.

**** MY LIFE!!!!!
goddamn effing computer i just typed up like 5000 words and it just totally out of the blue restarted mids message. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
effing brand new just got it like a month ago and its doin thi BS???
o i am furious. calm down jayme, calm down......... woo saw...... woo saw.....
ok here goes AGAIN
what i was saying is:
ford eeciv vehicles are simple. the electronics are indeed prehistoric and simple in function but when functioning they do the job fine.
problem is in identifying the source of a problem. first, it needs to be narrowed down to a function: fuel delivery, timing, spark, air, electronic ignition fault? exhaust? faulty clutch or transmission related sensors? temp sensors? most times u can use the codes to decifer the problem.
now. once u throw 2, 3 or even more faulty sensors or "gremlins" in there things get tricky. however, understanding the engine and its sensors and their roles in the cycles the engine goes through is the key. also, knowing how to properly test those is important.
now, changing the faulty part is most likely simple.
ok, so after dumping over 300 bux into her this weekend it quit again today.
right when i needed it to go for lunch to go fight home depot smore(dont shop there ill explain why)im also ripped at my dad as usual, who even tho i paid almost 800 bux in taxes so our family can go to hawaii, wont get his lazy useless ass of the dam couch and clean out the garage so i can work in our 2 car garage which is heated which he hasn't used in weeks. no months.
SO im pissed in general. and i tried to work on it outside, and couldn't cause my fingers were freezing to stuff. and pulling ur fingers off metal when they are nearly numb and loosing skin is less then delightful. and i even offered to clean out the garage for my dad and hes like "no i dont want u messing around in there" im like psh w/e thats about. aaaaand i went to home depot yesterday to return the earmuffs i bought 39 days ago. they had speakers in them which stopped working. they wouldn't take em back cause they said they were a power tool which has a 30 day return policy. and i said well my bill says 90 days to return items. and ear muffs arent power tools. and it says nothing of this 30 day return policy. so we argued that for a while and i left cause they said i gotta come in on my lunch break, which is sooo bs. cause i work past 5.
aaand i owe more money on my credit card then i own, cause of the shit i had to buy this weekend.
i need a new truck or anything dammit.
seriously 300 bux a month dont seem to bad im payin more than that now in repairs to a truck i couldn't get 1000 for jeez
i forgot to mention it was -40 today with windchill.
hopefully u understand now why i was not so up for workin on the ol ranger

Since you have other 2.9 liter computers at your disposole, take one off another truck and try to see if that helps, that what my dad woud say, if not then take stuff off the other trucks with 2.9 and put on yours, all youll be out is a little time. Your computer might need reset if you havent already tried that, I dont know how its done.

My truck awhile back if you remember quit on me. Well all I did to fix it, and it was a complete accident that it fixed it, was I un-hooked the computer from the wiring harness for like 10 minutes and then hooked it back up and it started right up.

Im supprised mine runs due to none of the sensors are hooked up, only the o2 sensor, temp, and air temp which arent made for the computer system and no vacuum lines and its suppose to run off all that and is all electronical now.

I dont know what tells your injectors to fire, that might be one of the causes to look into.

Did you ever sell your sploder? If not might need to drive it around, or another truck you own.

Sweet, great to hear you'll be able to work on it soon. Hope it stays running for from here till then.

no i cant trust it im currently mooching rides off a co worker. which kinda blows cause he doesn't work the hours i like working so i dont get much hours, ifso facto less pay. but today i worked 8-1/2 hours so it was OK. JUUUSt got home.
im thinkin about buying a (used) cobalt ss in march. they arent very expensive but they are fast. and i dont mind em. plus the 35mpg cant hurt either.
i dont plan on driving it forever just long enough to get a loan on a newer truck, ie a chev or gm half ton. cause they are cheap and so far have proven reliable. which aint bad.
plus, the cobalt will make driving cost cheap for my snowboarding pleasures.
yay bc here we come!
lol. i want to have this truck goin good. i hate that its makin that cash for clunkers thing soooo much more desirable. id strip it of useful parts and just make it still semi drivable so i could get it to a dealership and viola

Your truck wouldnt get much for cash for clunkers. Colbalts are nice but remember speed will get you killed.

Your telling me that you dont have another vehicle in your possesion to drive or enough of them to canibilize off of to make at least one good one? Hell after you do that to can part them out and sell the rest for scrap.

nope. not a single driaveable vehicle now. its very... frustrating. and i found out the cobalt ss i want isn't supercharged so haha NOOO
i guess im fixin this puppy and drivin her into the ground. i just wish i was paid better.
cause 20 grand a year just isn't enough.
cash for clunkers will give me 3300 at ford and 6 grand at saturn for anything owned for 6 months.

Wow here in America it was 4500 bucks max when the program was happening. From the sounds of it, its time to get rid of a few of the vehicles then, part them out or scrap them, your having a hard enough time with just this one.

I hope you drive your truck into the ground before it drives you into the ground.
