I cant find reliable information about this online so im deciding to make my own post. I just swapped in a 150k mile engine 2.3 duratec 2002. my previous engine had 250k and lost compression on cylinder 3.
I cant get the temp gauge to go any higher than the photo. I plugged forscan up to it and a 5 minute drive around my town cylinder head temperature sensor read as high as 254 at one point and coolant temperature peaked around 230. are these normal temperatures? i swear the engine smells like its overheating, floorboards are really really hot. but again gauge wont go any higher than this and no CEL, no check gauge light for overheating. i also noticed it gets up to temperature extremely fast. im talking like idling in the driveway for 2 minutes and its already up to like 190 degrees cht. coolant is not boiling over. heater blows hot.
fresh ford orange coolant
new radiator
new thermostat 208 degrees
this engine came with all accessories so im using the water pump, fan clutch etc that was on it already
i may just be paranoid but 254 seems awful hot, even the coolant at 230 seems hot. i figured around 220 max. this was also just light driving around town no interstate etc. I am in middle georgia so it is hot as hell outside right now. still concerned. anything i need to check?
i should mention my old engine with 250k the heat gauge would go to the middle around the symbol and this one will not even though forscan reads the temperatures as very hot
