What are some cheaper 3.0 performance mods that would give me some more power and maybe even better fuel mileage?

not really much. you can make it sound different with an exhaust and intake but nothing super cheap, you might be able to do the throttle cable mod. otherwise you can get a tune and port and polish intakes and heads, and get some headers but that stuff will cost a bit

Alright thanks. I was thinking about getting my local exhaust shop to do a magnaflow dual system for around $200 but i dont know if it would sound very good or if it would help me on fuel mileage or not and those would be the two main reasons for getting duals in the first place.

I would hold off on the K&N for a little while longer, do some research and decide if you really wanna go that route, go to supersixmotorsports.com and they will give you a heckuva bunch of ideas for 3.0 mods.

im doing a 5.0 swap for performance in my 3.0 truck, lol i dont think you will get much from cheap bolt ons, and a supercharger will get you some ponies but they arnt cheap, so 5.0 i go

If you search the forum there are about a billion and one threads about this same topic.

But I recommend the under drive pully, I got a lil bit better mileage with it and more low end it seems. Alot of people on here think that a CAI on the 3.0 doesnt do squat. Though I disagree dont get your hopes up too high, the improvement is slight but still there.

yea i have no doubt the pully works but the reason they dicontinued the SC on the 3.0 is because they found a SC 3.0 makes the same power as a stockish 4.0L

I will say this till me face turns blue.

Gearing is the cheapest and easiest way to gain the feel of performace on a 3L. Go with a 4.10 axle from a j yard truck and don't look back.

Lower gearing has been proven to gain mileage on the smaller engine trucks.

Darn....that is nota bad price for a duel set up. That includes two mufflers? I had a Flowmaster 40 with an alloy pipe that runs from the cat back to exit behind the right rear tire. The muffler shop bent the pipe to run and look like the stock pipe and it just cost me $135 out the door. They did a great job. The sound is great (not over bearing) and it gives a bit more punch to the power band. You really don't need a duel exhaust if you don't have headers. That is really a waste of money. It has been proven that a single exhaust puts out the same hp as a duel muffler setup. I have seen the proof in Hot Rod, Trucks, etc. Now.... with headers it is different story of course. But then the cam and flowing the heads to make that improvment in hp really starts to come into play....lol

Underdrive pulleys, intake manifolds and exhaust is the best mods for the 3.0. I have a Flow 40 on mine and love it.

I wish I could but I don't really have the funds for that right now and I dont think that would improve fuel mileage especially if you got a lead foot in fast trucks like me lol. If I keep this truck for a while and end up getting another daily driver i'm going to eventually do that :icon_thumby:

Alright, I think I figured out what im gonna do in gradual stages. K/N drop in filter, flow 40 single side exit exhaust, 31/10.50/15 wild country A/T's, 2 inch torsion crank when I get the bigger tires, and the underdrive pully setup.
