Finally got the wheel alignment done. It only took a new passenger side caliper and putting some clean grease in the bearings on that side again.
Tires are rotated. All the grease fittings received grease. Topped off fluids. Aired up the tires for pavement driving.
Livvy took it for a short test drive and reported that it seems safe enough for a trip. I'm glad to have her blessing on it.

But in the meantime time, here is a "post trip /post trauma drama " update.
Today, I jacked up the driver side of the rear axle. Spinning the tire by hand, I did not detect axle shaft splines damage as severe as I I thought it might be. I have time to source e new axle shafts or a new axle. My local junkyard has a 2002 4x4 Ranger. Nice truck, really - 4.0l, extended cab. Axle was just a normal open diff 4.10 ratio 8.8". I'll leave that there. I'm sure it's a 28 spline. So the shafts won't help me.
