What does Ford think the Maverick is for?

I get around the bed limitation with roof racks on the cap and cab.

I can see an older person viewing the Maverick favorably for the reasons stated. There are times where the lift into the 2019’s bed is a bit too much. I imagine a full size truck would be same or worse.

It's probably the perfect truck for the average homeowner that wants to haul tools and appliances around, etc. Obviously it won't substitute as a work truck on a job site, but that was never its intent.

Seems like the maverick and original ranger fill the same need.
My ranger with ladder rack is better than a full size without one for hauling lumber (except for sheets of stuff).

Not really. The original Ranger was more utilitarian work truck.

The old Ranger was basically a two seater, the shortest bed is the same length as the longest bed on the new Ranger. Whereas the Maverick is more versatile as a family oriented vehicle with a bigger cab.

Not saying one is better but their target audience is very different.

Never driven a new one but looking at them and sitting in them but a new Ranger doesn't feel much bigger than my '85.

The Maverick isn’t a truck anymore than the Ridgeline is a truck. It can do some truck things but so could an Elcamino and no one even thought about calling it a truck.

I will agree that the new Ranger is too big. Building a beefed up unit body platform with a FWD based drivetrain and a dinky bed didn’t address the issue.

What it wasn't intended for is Off Roading and trail running.

I believe they called the "El Camino" a cruck. Hell my dad still calls them, and the Ranchero that.

I don't know, I think they nailed it. My wife went to the dealership looking for a new vehicle for dancing, DJing, beatboxing, and skateboarding in dimly lit generic cityscapes. The salesman showed her the Maverick and the rest is history.

I didn't realize how similarly sized these 3 trucks are. Width is within 3 in, wb is within 10 in, and payload is within 300 lb. The maverick tow capacity is 2-4k (like the low end of the last ranger), and the new ranger is 7500 (half ton more than the high end of the last ranger).

I find all 3 to be cramped tho... the new ranger the least cramped but still cramped. But I find almost all unibody "suvs" to be cramped.

Don't think I'd plan on doing this with a Maverick tho
