hello, I appreciate if anyone has experience with this. to give you the history of the problem for some reason the bracket that holds the throttle cable to the engine (manifold) at the carburetor broke for some unknown reason. I welded it together and the gas peddle works now. Although the gas peddle seems low. The Throttle cable is actually an inch too long as it seems. ITs like I want to move the little ball at the end of the cable up a half-inch. in other words, there is slop in the moving part of the throttle cable. If the bracket had slotted holes in it I would be able to move the bracket back on the manifold to take up the slop. For the record, the welded bracket is back to the original form and shape.
Anyone ever had this problem? any advice. I will thank you ahead of time. Thanks.

Common issue, the cable gets stretched. Here's the simple fix.

both of the above replies are correct, although Dirtman's reply is probably of more help for your situation :p

excellent. I had a few other options that are much more time involved. I kept thinking that even a bicycle has adjusters on the brake and shift cables, so I had that type of adjustment in mind. the zip ties are so easy and effective!
I have no idea why the bracket broke in half on my manifold. I am thinking the heat from the engine made the metal brittle. It cracked right in half at the spot where the bolts go into the manifold. Thanks for the easy fix. I never would have dreamed it was a common problem.

you better believe the throttle cable makes Engine go vroom vroom.
I had this ranger for about 4 to 5 years now. I would have never known the throttle cable was stretched if it was not for the bracket at the carburetor breaking. Now that I used the above method to take the slope out of the cable, the truck runs like an entire different truck. It runs really great and much better with the full gas peddle! I had to use 4 ties to take up the slop and now it is getting Gas! lol..thanks a million.

Four ties? It sounds like if you run into this issue again, you’ll need a new cable.

yes I agree, it seems a bit excessive. I am going to plan on a new cable

lol, I did know, I thought of that when I typed the word, but I really do not know the way things work completely, I guess its fuel injection. I have no idea why there are 8 spark plugs either! I would assume to burn that fuel an extra time? I use to be learning, and a working mechanic back in the 70,s early 80's back when cars still had points and condenser. I guess I'm getting old.

Its a bit of a learning curve, but old dogs CAN learn new tricks.
What you termed a carb is a "throttle body". It measures the throttle plate opening and gives the reading to the computer. The computer uses that and other sensors to calculate the amount of fuel to inject.

FYI; what looks like a idle control screw is NOT! It's called an anti diesel screw and doesn't control idle. The IAC (Idle Air Control) valve on the side of the intake on the engine side of the throttle body controls idle.
