This could make a CrewCab Ranger a reality... for some of us...

If Canada regulates crash tests and contamination like USA do, its not gonna happen.
Mexico has the 2.3 duratec engines on the crew cabs tho, no diesel powah for them.

I'll be honest, my knee jerk reaction is "sweet" to the possibilities.

However, when my rational mind takes over, I realize that I probably don't want a vehicle manufactured at a lower crash standard.

Meh, they are probably on par with your Mustang.

It looks like it'll take quite a while to make this work. But a used Global Ranger would be sweet. That's if they get any in Canada by then. I figure I just won't crash it, if it doesn't pass the safety tests. Or I'll put a rollcage in it.

It still boils down to why we cant get them in the states

"Here’s the deal… It will take another year or two for the government to work out the regulations and protocols for Mexican used-vehicle importation, and the only vehicles allowed in will be those that can be certified for Canadian safety and environmental standards. This means that some vehicles will continue to be effectively persona non grata in Canada, because if they don’t already meet Canadian safety and environmental standards, it will likely be too costly and difficult to make them so.

That may be true, good point. I'm looking at it from a "family" vehicle perspective though. I don't take my kids in the Mustang very often - hell I don't even take myself in it very often (I've only put one tank of gas in it all summer).

Like Dave's comment, their emission standards probably aren't on par with us either.

Our import rules are a little different. As far as I know the vehicles have to meet the standards that were in place at the time of production. I know we have gotten a lot of diesel vehicles imported in my town through a company called Outback Imports. And we also have some older Nissan SX's and R32 Skylines that have been imported.

I think it would be cool just to see them rolling around randomly on the street, i always thought it was stupid that we didnt have them here.
