Terrible wet weather traction: tires or truck?

Thinking it may be tires. I was running Cooper Cobra GT's in the back for years. Then put on a set of ancient Cragar rims with BF Goodrich TA Radials. The Coopers would spin in the wet if you looked at them cross-eyed. The TA Radials don't. Rained here all week. Didn't spin them once.

I have had very good luck with Cooper AT tires. Mine are also extra wide. My belief is that the factory stock is too small. I'm with @Blmpkin. The reg cab Ranger weighs less than many cars, 500 lbs less than a Mustang. Also, tires get dry and brittle and lose their traction after 5 years.

Which is a very valid point. I believe tire compound possibly being an issue was mentioned before. I have had that experience with one set of Cooper tires but not with others of the same brand but different models.

Well you have a 4.0, others have an anemic 2.3 or 3.0 that could be partly why yours has "rain" issues. The tire pressure is probably your issue too. My 3.0 with programmer will spin the tires at will, and is kinda dicey in the rain. But manageable. A good limited slip rear axle would help alot.

I got the factory trac lock or whatever...I dont think it helps, I like to gas it out of turns lol. countersteering helps.
