In arkansas on 30 west towards texarkana. This is the first time I've driven in the snow. I'm not sure what the deal is with the traffic, backed up pretty far.

At least you are not stuck stuck. Probably best if you put the phone down and focus on not sliding into someone.

I got stuck stuck in a blizzard once... it is a very hopeless feeling when that happens. Sure glad for a cellphone that night...

It sucks being stuck in traffic just because it snows a little. We had just enough to make a little slush on the ground and they salted the roads already.

I grew up in northern Iowa in the 70s when it snowed a lot. The city streets were white all winter. Here in south Indiana where snow is infrequent, it's much more dangerous on the roads. Mostly it's because we float between rain freezing into ice and light snow--which makes the roads way worse than if it were snow. Drivers not being used to snow is less of a problem because people are more scared of snow here than where snow is commonplace.

My credo
When I die, I want to go where the dogs are.
Snow, shmow, ice is the bad stuff. When in either, SLOW the damn thing down, look WAY ahead, no sudden moves. Anticipate what the other guy is going to do, and just assume anyone else is an idiot. Yepper, even in a big truck, half them nowadays are nothing but seatmeat, they know less about defensive driving that a lot of four wheelers. And if it get's to where YOU are doubtful, park it, and get out of the way!:icon_cheers:

Love driving in the snow. Then again I'm from NY so its just kinda part of life. Its gonna be interesting tonite though...were supposed to get around 2 feet overnite and I work 5pm to 4am...Might just stay at work and pull a double if the roads are really that bad. 2wd sucks sometimes. even with 6 sandbags in the back :icon_rofl:

O'Reilly's had some inexpensive chains ($40) that were good enough to get me off the mountain with my 2wd. Even the 4wd vehicles weren't going anyplace without chains.

My brother lives on mountain in VT His Chevvie PU is his first 4wd . Driving on snow is an acquired skill. Most of the upside down cars and trucks had 4wd , he says. Chains will help you , but they suck to drive on, go slow.

I locked in the 4wd, kept her low and slow, and didn't have a lick of trouble getting home.

What I have learned is if you keep it a gear higher than normal driving and stay under 35 you will never ever have a real problem in snow.

Ice can be a bit meaner.

Thanks for all the driving tips guys. I did finally make through and back to Houston. So what should have been a 12 hour trip from TN to TX turned into 18 very quickly. Anyways, I'm safe and sound now so heres pics for your enjoyment

the cops in the last picture didn't want anyone moving until the hill was cleared, sanded, and the big rigs were through. I wasn't so happy about it but I guess it makes sense
