As an active member in the law enforcement community. If we make it any harder, or heaven forbid ban guns, for law abiding citizens to own. Things will be a lot worse off than they are now. A few undercover buddies of mine just purchased ten, that's 10, fully auto AR 15's for less than $400 a piece from a "small town" street gang. IMO the thing that can stop a crazy man with a gun is another man with a gun.

Please pray that the families of the victims can find some type of comfort during, what has got to be the hardest thing they have ever had to deal with.

BEIJING: A man wielding a knife attacked students Friday at a school in central China, leaving 22 children and one adult injured, according to state-run media reports.

The attack occurred at the gate of an elementary school in the village of Chengping, in Henan Province. Police arrested the attacker, who they identified as local resident Min Yingjun, 36.

Children as young as six were among those hospitalized after the attack, suffering injuries including slashes to the ears and head.

An official at Guangshan Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, the local facility, told CBS News at least two students had been transferred to the larger city of Wuhan, not far from Chengping, for treatment. The editor of the local newspaper which first reported the story said none of the children had injuries severe enough to threaten their lives.

he attack marks the latest in a series of violent assaults at elementary schools in China. In 2010, a total of 18 children were killed in four separate attacks. On March 23 of that year, Zheng Minsheng attacked children at an elementary school in Fujian Province, killing eight.

One month later, just a few hours after Zheng Minsheng was executed for his crime, another man, Chen Kanbing wounded 16 students and a teacher in a knife attack at another primary school in Fujian. The following month, on May 12, a man named Wu Huangming killed seven children and two adults with a meat cleaver at a kindergarten in Shaanxi Province. That attack was followed by an August 4 assault by Fang Jiantang, who killed three children and one teacher with a knife at a kindergarten in Shandong Province.

In 2011, a young girl and three adults were killed with an axe at an elementary school in Henan Province by a 30-year-old man named Wang Hongbin, and eight children were hurt in Shanghai after an employee at a child care center attacked them with a box cutter.

Some Chinese bloggers have blamed the lack of freedom of expression for the attacks, suggesting people frustrated by their own circumstances but lacking the means to seek justice or voice their concerns with the all-powerful communist government, lash out instead at the least powerful members of society.

China's lack of mental health care facilities may also be partly to blame for the attacks. There are almost no mental health care facilities in rural communities, which have experienced dramatic changes over the last several years as China's economy has grown.
All this is telling me is it is not the guns or knives or axes one well placed bullet would have saved lives in every case. I just heard that every child had between three and eight bullet holes. If you look close what is the difference in throwing a late term pregnancy in a garbage can. Abortion is exactly the same thing when you have no value to human life.

In some ways it is for the better too, I would rather be on my own than with someone I don't like as much as I thought I did or was abusive.
I did not mean to infer that all kids raised by single parents are worse off.

My credo
Failing is easy. Everyone can do it.
I've had my fill of the people coming out against movies and video games once again. Sense I work in that industry? (manager of a video arcade and a tech for about 20 years now).

It annoys me that people won't look to the person or 'shooter' at fault--but they always knee jerk a reaction that shifts blame away from the mental deranged person--and goes after an industry to 'regulate' behavior. It's not the games or movies....It's the minds of some of the deranged people. It's not guns and gun laws either. You can put 'no gun zones' around until you're blue in the face! People with a criminal intent wanting to cause harm, murder, rob, etc... They already plan on breaking the law. So what is a gun law to them? "Wopps...I can't enter a school to shoot students--they have a no gun policy...guess I'm going to slap everyone with a ruler instead.". (No I an not making light of this tragic event...but proving how absurd some can be, by pointing out the absurdity of their position).

Sadly unless we start going into having "Mind Police"? It's impossible to regulate or police people into taking their medications, or read their minds and take preemptive actions to prevent such tragic events.

To a large degree people are correct when morals started being 'removed' from schools and basic education. Most parents now and days? Single households....Or both parents work so hard they can't see/deal with problem children...and they grow up to be problems. Schools? Classrooms packed with to many students--rules and regulations...lack of accountability...Several schools have dismal grading results in national exams. And you can't pull the worst teachers aside--otherwise you'll get the unions pissed?? The class room is simply not the only place to teach morals! It should be the parents at home, working with the teachers! Not the parents pointing to the schools "Teach my child how to be a responsible person"... And the schools? Point back at the parents "We can't teach how to be a moral person, that's YOUR job!". When the students stood proudly to say the pledge, many schools had a "Church School" option back in the days where a student could attend both the community schooling..and a church based schooling.. We didn't have so many sick minds falling through the cracks. Science and faith went hand and hand. Now? Not so much. :dunno:

So beware in the coming weeks...as most of the mental morons looking to regulate everything to a pulp--already came out and stated "This is an chance to push our agenda for more gun control and regulate industries".. (It's sickening they use a tragic event to ramrod more laws and regulations...)

Sometimes bad things happen to good people and communities. This is tragic and we should learn from it, and find out the warning signs to help mentally ill people not do such horrific things. You can take away the simulation and guns...But the sick mind will still fester along until either they cope, get help, or god forbid--snap.

I think the problem lies in the fact that "we" as a society don't know what to do.So "we" try to do something even if it isn't right. As far as looking at the shooter, when they kill themselves all we can do is try to piece the puzzle together.

Sadly true. We can urge all the restraint we can! Let's hold off until we can figure out what really set this guy off!

But that doesn't fit some agendas---so a select few will start beating the drums "We must...MUST fix this now.....".. Well....? Fix What exactly?

And that's the issue. As a society we love to "Fix" things... Welp, sometimes the fix isn't all black and white in front of us! This runs extremely deep. With his mental issues? This honestly could have been caused by someone that failed to take his pills....We just do not know at this time!

JC & Tedybear,

First off, JC, if you spend time with the grand kids in the crucial 2-10 age (which it sounds like you do), IMO they will be much like mine or better, so keep up the good work !!!

Tedy, The PG13 reference I made is NOT against the actual movies or games, it was meant as the lack of guidance many parents in regard to shows and games that a young mind is simply not old enough to CORRECTLY relate the actions they see (and/or, get properly debriefed by a parent or teacher about what they saw/heard).

Definition of "Correctly", Many "messed-up" kids would NOT have been messed-up, had the parent been there (or teacher) during those CRUCIAL 2-10 years, (actually closer to 1-7). the problem here is that during the transition of "old family values" to today.. many parents are messed-up also, this itself "propagates" the effect of "stupid, is as stupid does", BUT I also lump myself in that last statement, the intrinsic difference is that, by reading, and research, I caught some of myself before the damage was totally done.

We have the internet, it's great for cars & trucks, but it's also great for family values, when used correctly..........

G.

What was that comment ?? "Physician heel thyself first" or something like that ? we need to fix us first, then we can fix others..........

(OK, am I fixed ??? well kinda :)

It's a shame that Hollywood/etc. uses all their efforts to cater to the worst of human nature.

Imagine if they focused on all the good in life that is being done/needs to be accomplished......(yes...I realize it's"what the public wants")

Ya think a generation of "Positive Movies" might help?

(I guess having survived war, I have a different perspective now)

Before we get off on rants? I skimmed through a lot of the commentary. So I didn't see your exact comments. Sorry if that struck a nerve.. My comments are directed at the political crew that have already sprung up all across the nation that has begun beating the "no guns anywhere" and "He played Video Games!" mantra.

Now to your point:

The PG13 reference I made is NOT against the actual movies or games, it was meant as the lack of guidance many parents in regard to shows and games that a young mind is simply not old enough to CORRECTLY relate the actions they see (and/or, get properly debriefed by a parent or teacher about what they saw/heard).
I do agree with what you stated. In fact I wish more PARENTS would pay attention to the rating systems in place, and monitor what their children "See". We've got a rating system in place done by the AAMA. We have fliers to hand out and HUGE POSTERS all over my store. And what do I see? Parents dropping the kids off, and they head out to the food court to sit and watch from a distance. a) That's bad parenting- b) The "Industry" is NOT to blame, as we have the guidelines in place.

As a sidebar note to parental stupidity in full force:

Family dropped off their 3 year old in my store. About 20 minutes after the child gets dropped off like a sack of potatoes? Another guest comes up and asked "Where are the parents? This child is wandering around without any supervision". She then took it upon herself to walk the child down to Security- I had my asst. manager follow both of them with the phone on the local PD speed dial just in case. About 15-20 minutes later I see Security walking around the food court with the child. 10 minutes after that? The Parents came in all panic stricken. "I just saw my child with security...Where did they go?". (Hey Schmuck...that was about 40 minutes or so ago--from the time you DUMPED your child off...until you just noticed they went MISSING?!?!?) In 40 minutes all shades of bad things can happen to a child. This parent should have been thankful their child wasn't harmed. Instead? They where flipping out because a) Their child was being walked around by security and b) It made them look like bad parents when security read 'em the riot act for neglect.

It didn't sink in with those parents. Sadly I see it every day. 60% of the time parents are with their children, explaining and checking on what the kids are doing. 40% of the time? Useless idiots that dump their children off..and couldn't care less what they see or do.

Maybe I'm off on my own rant here. But the teachers and schools? Meaningless until the parents start to give a damn.

I didn't see your early commentary, so my remarks where not directed at you. Do a google search on gun control....hit Drudge and see (you may need to back the refresh date to yesterday) He had several political pundits already starting with the "Blame" game. How about we blame the mentally deranged person for a change? How about we figure out his personal mental history so we can learn from it?

We had this same style chat as a nation for the shooting at the movie theater in CO. We had the same style chat after the shooting in Columbine.(sp).

And sadly yes--We'll have this same chat again.. It's not the guns...it's not the video games...and it's not the movies.. A sick mind needs help. We need to find out the warning signs and figure out how to have an intervention before something bad happens.

It's all about the quick and dirty money. The movie Titanic proved you can make a darn good film and make a truck load of $$, without the blood and guts.

So why don't they?

Because the cost to make it was extreme. They want the easy money first, and know pulling strings on peoples emotions, playing on fears...and gross/rude sells.

I'd love to see more positive films! But I'd probably be in the theater alone.

S-

(Then again? I'd love to see the parents that pay for tickets actually watch the movies with their kids. The number of times I've watched parents pay for a rated 'r' ticket...and then do the kid-drop at the theater. Hey, it's cheap. $12 bucks or so for a 2hr baby sitter while they shop! And the kid sees things that would make the most hardened cringe.)

I'm a teacher and there is NO WAY to prepare yourself for an act such as this. You can do all kinds of trainings and such but until you have to react, you just don't know. I've had my share of parents shouting and getting a little bit too close and loud that I've had to be the one to calm them down or escort them out of the building (all 100lbs at age 16 for the 1st time) and its a very scary thing. I just can't see why anyone would or could do such a thing, especially so many innocent children! There are just evil people in this world and there really isn't one explaination as to why. I have so many kids come to school and tell me about the zombie shows they watch or the mass murder shooting on their video games, but never have I heard them wanting to do that to an actual person.
But I must agree that people don't spend enough time with their kids. I have kids from 6:30am to 6pm at school cause mom and dad just let the school and daycares raise their kids anymore. I was a babysitter after work for about a year and I spent more time with the two little kids then their own parents did, so much so that both of them called me 'Mommy'

Arm the teachers.

Kids from 14-24 have all of these natural chemicals pumping through their veins. A hundred thousand years ago a young male had to make the change from cub to contender. You had to take on the alpha male and win, or slink off and make it alone. To give you that drive to make the push for the top, you have all of these chemicals that infect your brain through this period. This is a fact. You can only house train nature so much. As modern humans, we get into all sorts of social situations that evolution didn't prepare us for--evolution stopped for us many thousands of years ago. Young males have an anger that often finds no solution. You punch holes in walls, get drunk and drive too fast, put your head through car windows in the Wal-Mart parking lot. With sports and things, you find a target for this anger. Certain males, often raised by women who don't understand the furnace that burns inside a young man, end up going out of control. A few beers, this doesn't happen. Young men denied a pressure release, you get this. Young men wanting to scream at the world and leave in a hail of bullets--determined to make themselves immortal by their violent actions because they can't get it by becoming the alpha male through merit.

The back-lash of this violence is Bloombergs crying for gun control. Mindless and unintelligent pursuits. We have millions of guns in this country. They are not going away. We supposedly treasure children more than gold, but we lock up our gold behind iron, concrete and guns and leave our children assembled in classrooms with no protection.

I've got 5 kids, ages 2-12, so I feel this deeply. I think a school principal and vice-principal should be trained and required to carry a handgun. Any teacher that wants to should also be able to receive training and carry.

This shithead went for the school because it's a soft target. He didn't head for the sheriff's office because he might get shot there before he gets a chances to make history.

My thoughts are with those who have been unfortunately taken by this event, and the families and friends of those people.

The 1911 on my bedside table has a special bullet in it for people who want to pulls stuff like this. As soon as I can, I'm joining the Volunteer Police and insisting on school duty. I'm also planning on becoming a trauma surgeon after schooling is over, to help keep as many victims of unfortunate events like this with us. Those little kids didn't do anything to the shooter, they were innocent, defenseless, and had lives to live. I won't let some moron like that take those innocent lives.

Seething With Rage Since i heard about this in school the other day... i would gladly hit this guy with my truck... but i think that'd be too quick...
