Hi, Just wanted to introduce myself. I've been surfing for awhile and have found much great info on here....I'm planning a project with a 4.6 of some sort into a Ranger, kind of a copy or tribute to the actual Ford built 2002 Lightningbolt but not the 5.4 due to size. I'll be posting details as I get closer to actually starting, but for now Im compiling opinions and info.

Thanks for the help in advance!

Welcome aboard KT.

If you start searching for info on 4.6L swaps, the name 281Ranger will pop up a lot. Actually, searching for posts made by him will probably give you the best results.

He also has a page at http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2052265

I talked to Patrick Hespen from Ford SVT back in April. I was under the impression that Ford still had that truck sitting around.

Loved that truck.

Love the 345/35-18 rear tires too.

It would be cool to see someone actually build that truck.

Join the club for wanting a 4.6 in a Ranger.

I have my future V8 project ranger sitting in the yard.
but I want to build it with a twin cam 4.6(Mk8 engine)

My Project Ranger is a 1993 4x4, but that's mainly for cab,
bed and title. I was planning on putting it on a 2000-2004
rolling frame, because the total plan is to make it an AWD
(5.0 Explorer t-case) truck.

So whatever you discover in researching your project
will be of great interest to myself as well as to many others.

BTW, your first name wouldn't be Kevin, would it?

Welcome, no need to hide your identinty, lol. I'm Frank.

There are a bunch of 350 s-10's popping around here (i mean like dozens of them) and several turbo'd rangers.
I haven't seen that many v-8 rangers in person locally, dunno why.

I hope you find the information, and I hope it kicks ass.

btw: love the hybrid comment in your sig.

Welcome KT.

If you want to do a mod motored Ranger, start with a '98-up non-Edge 2wd. That will give you the widest front frame and rack-n-pinion steering. Everything after that is a piece of cake.:icon_thumby:

Thanks guys! I guess my disguise is a little thin! LOL! Im impressed with the incredible potential of the modular engine family.... es[eceially the deep breathing 4 valve jobs from the MK8 and the Mach one/Cobra-Terminator.

I've got a 66 Mustang Coupe that I'm putting an 04 Cobra drivetrane in as my personal project.... so far it's coming along well, although I could use a clone of me to get some more work done.

What I love about the Rangers are that they're a good looking truck to start with, and they come with a variety of HD components, and like the previous guy said, rack and pinion steering after 98.

The 281 Ranger guy is dong a very clean job of his 4.6 engine swap, I cant wait to see the finished product, although I hope he keeps the stealth factor with the dog dish hubcaps and plain jane exterior.

Im sure I'll be all over this forum alot more as the plans come together for this truck. I'm excited about it and it shold make for some interestisng tech, but more importantly a curious traction problem at the rear tires....

Thanks for offer of assistance!

KT.
