Hey ya'll, watch this
I have an 02 Windstar 3.8 van. oil pump went out and ate a rod bearing, no biggie. Pulled motor , new crank rod and main bearings. Bunch of other parts. Heres my issue....cooling fans have no power now and a/c doesnt work. Went through fuses and relays..all good. Checking all wires but mosquitoes were eating me. Any thoughts would be great

First, set up a big box fan in front of the radiator, it will buy you some run time to test things.

Next, engine running, turn the AC on and test power at the pressure switches and compressor, keep in mind it's a series circuit, so you can only check one at a time.

If you get power to the compressor, then go back, and with the AC still on, test for power and ground at the fans.

If there is a fault in the fan circuit the computer on that van can disable the AC though, so you may then need to let it get to temp to test the fans.

You did charge the A/C system? If there is no pressure... it won't activate.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
Knowing that he pulled the motor and reinstalled it, this is really reading like a wire connector or ground got missed. It's very easy to do and could be difficult to actually see the location where it is.

Eric... you very well could be right.

But I never start an A/C inoperative diagnosis with out ensuring there is pressure in the system... it's just to simple not to do.

New Problem. Put in shop. They fixed fans etc. Wanted to do brakes and this and that so I had it towed home. Went through brakes, drained trans, new filter, new fluid. went on test drive and told wife to lock the brakes. Dirt road, low speed. Van totally quit driving. No forward or reverse. But if you try to put in park it grinds terrible. I know these turds have converter and input shaft problems but want to be sure. If you check trans fluid with motor off its way up the stick. Crank motor its back in checkered area. Please someone help

The converter housing itself is what drives the pump, so as long as the flex plate didn't break the pump should still be turning with the engine on. The converter issue that caused a recall a few years back was about the internal hub that the input shaft splines to breaking off, so it looses all its gears. IIRC the recall was only issued for the Freestars, but it was the same trans, it was just a bad production run.
