Well, my buddy calls me at about 6 this evening...From about the halfway point between Calgary and Red Deer. His Heep died on him on the highway. They had no power so they couldn't even keep the heat on, and it was about -10*C outside or maybe even colder, plus they're in the middle of the parries so the were completely exposed to the freezing wind. He was helping move his sister back to Calgary from her first year at RDC. He asked me to bring my truck but because I have the subs in it, and the fact that its a two seater it doesn't work bringing 3 people (myself included) back to Calgary. So I call his mother (who he still lives with since its cheaper to live at home, then to live at res). She comes and picks me up in her Heep. So about an hour later driving to find them in a whiteout, that he just so happened to neglect. We found them. Turns out the alternator died on his 4L after 240000km of abuse. So in the middle of a white out on the side of the highway with a basic socket set, 2 vice grips, and a pair of channel locks, I manage to jerry rig it up so it would charge half assed, just enough to get it back to Calgary under its own power. Remember this is in a white out, with ice covered roads, and I'm in my buddy's mother's Jeep, and she doesn't drive in the winter months any more then from work and back, and thats on roads that are 50km/h and below. It was an interesting night, and it ended in her giving me 2 twenties, and we stopped at the liquor store and she bought me a bottle of Lambs Rum. It wasn't all bad, but it was pretty scary driving there and back, I would have taken pictures, but there wasn't anything to take a picture of aside from whiteness.
So what other times have you guys had to do an emergency repair on the side of a road or trail in extreme conditions?
