Hey RangerStation
Today I successfully added two OEM Ford All-In-One keys to my 2009 Ranger.
Here's how I did it... but BEFORE YOU CONTINUE - attempt at your own risk, this is for informational purposes only. I am not responsible for any losses or other issues this may cause you.
PARTS NEEDED:
FORD 3 BUTTON REMOTE HEAD KEY SA 80 BIT OEM CHIP CWTWB1U793
eBay Seller -
Motorcraft SW6383 Ignition Switch and Lock Cylinder (Optional, I modified the brand new Ignition Switch to keep the one off my Ranger intact in case I need to revert).
Amazon Seller
CR2032 Batteries (Optional, My all-in-one Ford keys arrived with dead batteries from eBay seller).
Amazon Seller
HOW-TO:
STEP 1 - Get the new all-in-one keys cut to match original keys. I took mine down to the local locksmith, 5 bucks per key.
STEP 2 - Remove original Ignition Cylinder Lock from Ranger. Helpful Video:
STEP 3 (Optional if you use your existing Ignition Switch) - Code your new Motorcraft SW6383 Ignition Switch and Lock Cylinder to match the original ignition cylinder. There are a couple of ways to do this - one is to disassemble your existing switch to reveal the tumbler code. Helpful Videos -
STEP 4 - Remove the key sheath, dog ear, handle, whatever you want to call it. I used a Dremel to cut the thing off as close to the base as I could. Then I fine tuned it further using rough grit sandpaper and finished it off with some fine sandpaper to give a cleaner look.
Before:
After:
With new Ignition Switch coded and fully re-assembled, test fit both the old and the new all-in-one keys for fit and function
Fit -
STEP 5 - Install modified Ignition Switch back into the Ranger.
STEP 6 - Code the remote door lock/unlock/emergency buttons on your new all-in-one key FOB. Helpful Video:
1. Unlock all doors using the power door lock switch on door panel.
2. Turn ignition from OFF to ON 8 times within 10 seconds, with the 8th time ending in ON. Door locks will cycle to confirm programming mode. (*ON is as far forward as you can turn without starting the vehicle*)
3. Within 20 seconds press any button on first keyless remote. Door locks will cycle to confirm programming.
4. Within 20 seconds, press any button on second keyless remote. Door locks will cycle again to confirm programming. (*If you only have one remote to program skip step 4*)
5. Turn ignition to OFF. Locks will again cycle to indicate end of programming mode.
NOTE: I had to repeat step programming steps for the two original key fobs + the two new all-in-one fobs in one single programming session so that both the new and old remotes remain functional, for total of 4 remotes. Otherwise, only the two new all-in-one fobs that were added worked.
STEP 7 - Code/add new all-in-one keys to PATS system.
IMPORTANT - In order to do this yourself you will need to have BOTH of your original PATS keys. If you only have one key, you will need dealer assistance or you will need to seek out some other home-brew solution.
1. Start with your two original keys. If you only have one, you can't program the keys yourself.
2. Next, you'll need a new PATS key that has been cut to match your original keys (you can buy these at your local Ford dealership).
3. Start by putting one of your original keys in the ignition.
4. Turn the ignition cylinder ON (RUN) for three seconds, then turn it back to OFF.
5. Within ten seconds, remove the first original key and insert the second original key, and then turn to ON (RUN) for three seconds, and then back to OFF.
6. Within ten more seconds, insert the new key and turn to ON for three seconds, then turn back to OFF
7. If you did it right, the “security” light on the dash will illuminate for three seconds. Congrats!
8. Repeat this process for any additional keys.
DONE -
Enjoy your new all-in-one keys..
