I have no clue where to start. I need decent acceleration and range, but nothing crazy...just enough to get to work and back along with a lunch break run. Work is always within 30 miles each way.

I been looking at the Chevy Bolt EV.

I cant believe I'm writing this. any other recommendations?

Realistically, what range do you need? It's been improving steadily as time goes on, so the older/cheaper ones tend to have quite a bit less range available than the newer stuff. I need a solid 150 to make it work, and we're still several years from that hitting my price range.

My dad had a volt for a similar commute and he loved it. Is it 30 minutes on a highway or 30 mins on surface streets? What's the actual mileage? Any of them will be pretty quick just because they're electric, or at least fast for what they are.

My wife just got hers, but not a hybrid. She got lucky and called at the right time; someone had cancelled their order. Otherwise they've closed orders for this year and they aren't going to open them up until August. Food for thought in case you don't want to wait.

Chevy Bolt 2022 base price $31,500, all electric, est. 250miles on full charge

Ford Maverick Hybrid 2022 base price $21,490, no range limit since its a Hybrid, est, 40MPG City driving, MPG actually goes down a bit at highway speeds

I wish the Maverick hybrid had an AWD option. That would make it a lot more attractive to me. I feel like AWD is a necessity.

I'm not opposed to an EV. The charging part at my house is a challenge - the electrical system is pretty old and on a 100 amp service so that kind of presents a problem for adding a charging station. Not impossible, just expensive to overcome. I think a solar setup that is off the grid would be cool. Really an EV would meet 99% of my daily travel needs.

That's exactly what I have, and it's going to waste not charging my EV for free
