You could drill them out and use these like I did:

Strap Delete Mod:

Tools needed:
1/4" drill bit
5/16" drill bit
cutting oil
13mm end wrench or standard equivalent
external #25 torx bit
pry bar
3/8 drive or bigger drill gun (battery or corded)

Time needed:
Less than an hour

Parts:
Precision 534-10 U-bolts (got mine from RockAuto, $9 shipped)

It took me less than ten minutes to do this modification. I tried the straps first but broke 3 out of the 4 bolts off while tightening them down with a 1/4" ratchet. Hopefully that will tell you how weak the stock setup really is.

I got my u-bolt straps at Advance Auto under their help section for around $10.

I have had mine out a couple times over the years, I did put in new strap kits for peace of mind when I was doing my V8 swap... never have broken a bolt though.

I do despise getting a hold of those little bolts, had I known about Brinker's truck I would have gone that route.

Aren't these properly named "Brute", but it should have been spelled "Brut". As in they are to U-joints, as Brut is to cologne?

Seems like I heard they are not so good.
